So I assume the "crane lift operations" on Water Street tomorrow, (April 4th), is probably delivering crane parts to be installed.

Also, the Chief Administrative Officer for the city is supposed to be delivering a verbal update on select catalytic projects at the council meeting tonight at 6pm. This includes the Fundy Quay project, so we will probably get further confirmation of construction starting in May.
UPDATE: The CAO for the city didn’t provide any new update/details. Pretty much just “work continues by the developer”. So no further confirmation from him lol.

Well, I just was looking at the live webcam on the city website. Looks like the "crane lift operations" isn't related to the Fundy Quay. It's just a small truck with a crane lift on the back of it. They are doing something on the roof of the buildings across the street, while being parked in the northbound lane.

Oh well lol. Hopefully construction really is starting next month like what Wayne Long said he was told.

Working Late?

I've been watching the daily progress around the boardwalk since the city brought the cameras back online last year. I've never seen the workers still on-site past 4:30-5pm - but tonight they're still there at 7:00. Any ideas why they're working late now? Has something become more time sensitive?

Likely pressure from the city an the restauranteurs to get it done for this summer at any cost. They've been sharing images of the new boardwalk on socials telling people to "imagine this coming summer" so maybe they've cracked the whip!

Spoke with one of the restaurants yesterday - apparently, the patios will be kind of ready for the summer but just the poured concrete. They also said the stage will be done - from what I understand full completion will not be done til summer 2024

Imagine how much faster projects would get done if they worked 7 days a week and past 4:30pm every day lol.

Absolute crickets on the proposed site. With construction season basically here I wouldn't be surprised if there was an announcement over the next few weeks further delaying the project because of "market conditions".

I'm hearing that banks wont lend the money to the developer for Fundy quay until they secure more tenants in the city hall building, which by the sounds of things is a slow process so far. I hope this isn't correct, but its not looking good...

I'm hearing the exact opposite haha - I understand construction will start this year - it's from a pretty good source but until I see shovels in the ground!

Here's hoping. I get banks need to evaluate risk etc but with the port upgrades and the increase in population in Saint John and current lack of housing. I can't see how people think these buildings will be sitting empty.

Wayne Long said construction starts next month. I’m confident funding was secured well before they even purchased city hall. I can’t image the city and Feds would proceed with site clean up without financial assurances for the project.

Stupid Question: Is there some department within City Hall that can confirm if there is going to be a start date in May? Is this stuff really kept that close that nobody can say?

Today they've been relocating those white-wrapped pallets (paver stones?) - moving them to along the new seawall area. Perhaps clearing the space for construction to begin? They were kind of in the way.

Construction on the new Chipman Hill entrance of the City Hall building seems to have come to a halt. Does not bode particularly well for Fundy Quay if they can’t bring a small project like that across the finish line.

In all likelihood waiting on materials. Plaguing most construction sites

Update: They've brought something over to the entrance with a forklift. They were doing something, (hard to see without the ability to zoom in), then finished what they were doing. Brought the forklift back to where it was parked, and the few guys that were there just left. And like you've mentioned, the old stage is now gone.

Construction has to be starting very soon. Today they are continuing with moving the white-wrapped material from the area where the 6-storey SW building will be to closer to the seawall. (The material is lined up in a straight line right at the edge).

Not to burst your bubble, but Harbour Passage will be removed from Water St and wrapped around the perimeter of FQ this summer (as soon as the Market Slip public space is completed). It's almost definitely for that.

I do hope the city opens the northeast and northwest sites for parking or something more exciting this summer too. Leaving money on the table to let it sit un-used.

If I am interpreting the post correctly I believe they are saying because of the ramped movement of these materials and the stage away from the SW lot it’s a sign the developers have given the nod make way because we are coming in soon.
