What's with the crazy density in that one block of Champagne? not complaining at all, just curious why there's all those towers clumped together surrounded by SFH

It started with the HOM condo by Domicile at 100 Champagne, the 11 storey beige tower. That was completed around 2013 and probably marketed the hell out of the O-Train station. From there, SoHo came in, pushing the envelop with a whopping 20 and 22 storeys (or whatever). Ashcroft later proposed quite a nice project, but ended up building this basic, yet still kind of interesting student res condo concept.

So why here, well I guess you have to start with one and then it gets easier to propose and get approval for new towers. Domicile was kind of a pioneer, being one of the first developers to start the mid-2000s, early-2010s condo boom, coming up with competent but not glass shattering designs. They were one of the first ones on Wellington West as well. I remember reading somewhere they are no longer developing new projects. We seem to have lost a few of the good ones.

Seems like a lot of projects seem to have issues when they reach the window installation phase. Must be quite a supply chain issue.

This one is so much more 'Charcy' than the first one. It looks horrible from every angle now. This whole area is turning into a sad joke.

This city is now known as Ooftawa to me.

Pretty wild to see this one and The Lennox finishing up at the same time considering this image I took in September 2022...

Wait is the podium all glass or are my eyes deceiving me and its just the metal frame? If it is in fact all glass it frankly look weird and disjointed from the rest of the tower.

All glass. Looks like a CharcWhite on top of a car dealership.

^ All truth in these posts. I still can't believe how hard SOHO phase 1 buyers got the shaft, given the $/SF those buyers paid vs. other similarly priced buildings around town.

This is what our neighbours will imagine density could look like if they don't fight it tooth and nail. This is tragic on multiple levels.

This could have been 2 skinny taller towers offset at opposing corners of the combined site, with a combined podium. Open views, natural light, better aesthetics for everyone with working eyeballs everywhere yada yada yada

Whoah, whoah, whoah....keep your sensible design to yourself! Remember what city we are discussing here! Downtown tomato gardens must be preserved, the charcoal brick must continue to flow, and shadows of buildings for seven minutes at sunset two months of the year could trigger a nationwide food shortage!

Yeah, this is quite disappointing, yet somehow not as bad as Rideau.

I agree, the podium looks disjointed with different materials and heights. Surprised tower 1 doesn't have access to the new roof top pool area (hope it doesn't stay a big blank wall).

For sure, slimmer, taller offset (though they did sort of try) point towers would have been far better.
