I just asked this about the Waterline...the tower has a FAA permit for 883'. Would this be due to the overall height when the window cleaning boom is fully extended?

I'm pretty sure that is all going to be left exposed. But the color will match better over time. You can tell which layers were poured earlier (bottom) vs those that were poured more recently (top). Also, this photo has had some editing done. the contrast isnt as obvious in real life. If you watch the youtube video earlier in the thread, it has a good shot of the exposed concrete

Went back and rewatched the video. It’s certainly much cleaner looking.

I feel the exposed, raw concrete, is a fatal flaw in the design of this tower.

It will not age well and not look better over time. Even paint or stain would be a better option, than leaving it as is, in my opinion. My eye goes directly to the concrete on which ever side I am viewing. The corner columns, the balconies, and especially the the south façade. Ugh.

I get this view pretty often on my drive into town from Houston. I'm surprised this is the first mention of the view on the forum. I've also noticed only twice now that on VERY clear days, there's a really quick view of the tops of the skyline from about 5mi west of the 290/Highway 21 intersection--roughly 31mi from downtown as the crow flies.

Theoretically, there should be some views of the very top of 6X, Independent, and the Austonian from as far away as Luling (~40mi as the crow flies) or even Longhorn Cavern in the Hill Country (~45mi). I went to https://www.heywhatsthat.com/ and used their horizon finder tool with an elevation above ground at approximately 600ft at roughly 6th and Congress to get the view map. Everything in red can be seen by (and thus see) someone here.



I know the tool doesn't take trees, buildings, or atmospheric effects into account to calculate these views, but on a clear day this summer maybe someone with a drone (hint hint) could go out to some of these places and try to get a record for the farthest Austin skyline pic on the forum.

The average elevation of this tower's southern façade is 485'. Thus, giving the tower an approximate height of 1,359' AMSL. The grade elevation of 6th and Congress is actually closer to 490'.
