I'd like to see both Bayview Yards and the arena District creep over the tracks and into the park, forming an "L" of development. Otherwise, Bayview and LeBreton will be poorly integrated.

Man that's a big homeless shelter! Quite the footprint.

Yeah, every library is a homeless centre for drugs and criminal activity. They just love being bad boys around those librarians.

In this climate libraries are one of the most important resources for the homeless population. If we had any other safe accessible climate controlled spaces with safe accessible climate controlled washrooms for them aside from the overcrowded shelters, it wouldn't have to be that way.

Oh no, I was being facetious. No way in hell I believe that at all.

Although, we really do need to think of how to fix things so that they have better condition in areas that would help them.

Footprint seems smaller than I imagined. Nice to see it take shape thought.

While we're comparing our u/c library with others, I'd like to present Montreal's Grande Bibliothèque. Very similar arrangement as ours, it serves as both the City's central library and the (in that case) Province's library and archives. It was completed in 2005.

It's not a bad building, but I would argue that ours will be nicer if executed correctly. One of the very few times we can say that ours is better than Montreal's.

Holy crap we need this win! MTL has so many amazing projects with really high quality architecture it's maddening. It seems all of their new condos are Zibi quality and better and their downtown towers are really turning out great.....adding to some classics from the 70's 80's and 90's.

It's not a showstopper from the outside, but I quite like the interior.

That stretch of Berri around UQAM isn't a particularly nice stretch of downtown, but it's adjacent to Quartier Latin, which is an excellent part of downtown. I like the location. Great subway and bike lane access as well.

I find the exterior to look like a public parking garage or a bus garage for the STM. the interior is fine but not even close to the inside of the Calgary library.

I would not be impressed at all if that was the building that had been proposed for Ottawa

Yup, Grande Bibliothèque's location is certainly not in a touristy or iconic area. Seems it was chosen for convenience of the locals and UQAM students, which is fine in a City that didn't need a grand library to boost it's World image.

Ottawa's new library location, love it or hate it, will be much nicer, with the escarpment, greenery, views to and from the river, bridging the gap between two distinct areas of downtown.

The Grande Bibliotheque is literally a block away from St-Denis, which is definitely a major draw. Agree on the views though. Ottawa’s is going to be really sweet

Right, St. Denis

Right on the edge! Somewhat reminds me of Main and Hastings in Vancouver, just not quite as intense.

It is a street-deadener. Have hated that thing since it was still in design.
