Main West as-is isn't a boulevard, it's a stroad. It's noisy, dangerous and lacking in pedestrian and cycling facilities. It is the model of how not to build a thoroughfare in a city (behind Mountain Road of course). No long-term plan should include keeping it in its current state.

As for Ivan Rand, it's going to run directly alongside the tracks, so not ideal for a small pedestrian street lined with dense housing. Combined with the lack of anything within a very short walk to justify that housing, being hemmed in by the existing neighbourhood (there are only two streets to extend into the new area) and the fact that Ivan Rand has already been built in two separate sections as a two-lane street with a trail means it's likely to get completed that way, and the current parking lot is going to get developed like Junction Urban Village.

New anglophone school on the BMHS campus in the new west end (downtown for the purposes of the way we divvy up the city in these threads).

I can't be any more specific than calling it an "anglophone school." Originally it was supposed to be K-8 and serve as the replacement school for Hillcrest & Bessborough, but, because of population growth and crowding issues, it is sounding more and more likely that this will become a 6-8 middle school, with both Bessborough and Hillcrest remaining open as neighbourhood K-5 schools. This is an excellent solution as far as I'm concerned.

When I was in Moncton at my mothers for Easter dinner my brothers partner, who is a teacher, told me Hillcrest and bessbrough will stay open. It was mentioned Hillcrest will be repurposed as a resource school for newcomers with no english skills. Many newcomers children do not speak e6nglish so they are thinking they should have a resource school to gget kids up to speed with their english. Apparently this is a big issue in the younger grades. especially.

Yes, well, I'm tired of waiting for these guys to make their announcements, and, they are pretty much not secrets any more.

1) - Baton Rouge at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. There are certain features of this restaurant that I am aware of, but will continue to be quiet about. I will state however that the restaurant will be very impressive.

2) - 10 storey apartment building at the Junction Urban Village. This will be facing Main Street. The principle reason for secrecy here was so the proponents could complete land acquisition. This is no longer an issue. I believe they will start work on this later this year.

#1. The ICON project next to Staples on main Street.
#2. The Lafford property across Assomption from the Three Sisters.

These would be my prediction. The Lafford project wouldn't be started for a while though, as he has his hands full with construction of the Three Sisters.

John Wishart said that the 20 storey projects would be "announced" this spring.

I'm still hoping that there's something new that we haven't heard about - something that catches us all by surprise. And something that actually gets off the ground, unlike the previously announced projects that seem to have been delayed.

According to Collier's East, the former St. Bernard's Church Rectory has been sold. I noticed the sold sign myself the other day.

The purchaser plans to develop the property as a boutique hotel, which would be a wonderful use for this Gothic Revival building.

This was actually the plan of the original purchaser several years ago, but the plans fell through. Hopefully the new owner can get it done.

This entire block will be quite interesting in 3-4 years, what with the rectory boutique hotel, St. Bernard's Church itself, and also St. Bernard Square.

Some interior work had already been done by the original proponent (gutting and prepping), hence the increased valuation (that, and market increase).

If Assumption Parkway is ever built (and I think it will be), then I would have no objection to West Main undergoing that road diet to three lanes with bike lanes on either side.

So basically you would like west main to undergo the same treatment Salisbury road as well as Shediac road got 5-10 years ago? How many bikes do you see on those roads? In the years ive been going back and forth to work i bet i can count the number on two hands. Theres a bike path along the river. Why would anyone ride their bike along a road when they have a nice wide path along the river?

IMO this is a terrible idea just like it was on Salisbury road.

IMO this is a terrible idea just like it was on Salisbury road.

But if you have Assumption continuing from Vaughan Harvey to the traffic circle, most the traffic would move to the new road, especially if there was minimal connections to west main. It would be much quicker.
