I visited that Moderne once and Tim Hortons a few times a month for coffee. It was a ridiculous set up. TH actually used to occupy the whole thing then Moderne moved into half, just like they used to share with some Wendy's.

There's no way this idea was thought out at all. Their prices are quite high for that overall experience.

I also can't see the owner throwing in the towel, yet. My guess is he's cutting his losses and looking for another more appropriate location without also having to juggle an open kitchen.
Thanks for the info. I always thought that was a weird location for them. It’s interesting that it was apparently that hard to find a Kits location to replace the old one.

Looks like Glowbal Group has stopped paying rent at Trattoria Park Royal...probably not a good sign.
They're also closing the West Fourth location.

Am I correct in assuming the owner of global has a personal guarantee on that lease? Wonder if the whole group could go down.

I think you're reading too much into this. A 15 year lease is fairly normal (10yr+5). With an assumed rent hike, any operator would look to see if makes sense to stay in the same location or invest in a new spot. Any 15 year restaurant will need to be renovated - so a better location (and space) might be desired. In this case, the answer is yes.

As the article says, they're looking for a new spot on the Westside with additional restaurants underway, including a huge new Black+Blue In TO

At the Executive Inn on Howe St.

The space would be the floor just under the signage.

The Pleasant at Main & Broadway where Guys and Dolls Billiards was is finally open.

I just looked quickly while walking past. I would describe it as a craft brewery tasting room vibe.

We have only one restaurant that meets those specs and it is Harbour Center's revolving restaurant. Cloud 9 used to be the same as well, but is long gone.

For the amazing cityscape and natural views, we have very few restaurants with spectacular vistas, save for few viewpoint establishments.

Which is kind of strange when you think about it. Downtown Vancouver should have a bunch of rooftop restaurants and bars to take advantage of the amazing scenery. It'd be something worth advertising to draw tourists in.

One of my favourite things about Hong Kong Island (from Wan Chai to Fortress Hill) are all of the cool rooftop nightlife amenities. I had many a great night staring out over Victoria Harbour with a beer in hand.

This was from a rooftop bar in Fortress Hill.

C'mon, Vancouver, get on it!

I'm glad it's finally open but seems pretty basic for all of that time. Just a big open room.

Great pics, really makes me miss HK.

Vancouver has a few rooftop patios, but nothing of that height to take advantage - which is a real missed opportunity as we have a few buildings with that height that could use an public establishment at the top rather than another $30 million penthouse apartment.

Vancouver has a lot of Mexican food options these days, but I'm rarely impressed by them (too Tex-Mexy, tortillas aren't freshly made). There are a handful of good traditional Mexican restaurants (usually run by Hondurans) around, but nothing like what you'd find in Southern California.

I've been searching for a exceptional burrito for months, and was constantly coming up short until I visited Las Tortas on Cambie St. While they specialize in Mexican sandwiches (which are fantastic), their burrito is as good as you'll find in LA. I'm so happy.

Have you been to Vallarta’s Mexican at Broadway & Renfrew?

I’ve only been there once and had tacos (which were fantastic), I need to try a burrito there sometime.

I haven't. Thanks for the recommendation.
