Today’s departure count: 65, including 7 sun flights
Today’s cancellation count (so far): 10
Three flights (AC442 from YYZ, PD2211 from YTZ, AC7704 from YTZ) all couldn't get in this morning due to the fog. AC442/PD2211 returned to origin and AC7704 went to YUL. Then once the fog cleared here Montreal must have gotten it as AC406 YYZ-YUL diverted here.
Just booked for a group of us this summer on the new AF service. Super excited to try them out
That’s great, I hope the route is successful for them. I booked a trip this morning. Use it or lose it! They had some nice promo fares this weekend, along with KLM. I’m looking forward to not taking the AF or KLM bus to Montreal!
Here's a 2 part series about YOW in 1989. This would have been an interview with a senior official with Transport Canada given it was before privatization.

Happy for you! The bus going there is fine even though I am still a firm believer in starting at YOW to support the airport, but can you imagine travelling all day, tired as heck, just wanting to get home and then have to get on a bus by the end of it? I did it once more than a decade ago and can safely say I’m never doing it again. I’m also very glad AF is being competitive on pricing depending on the destination so we can actually use it! I was worried it was going to be grotesquely expensive because it’s the only TA option. Even round trip to Paris is only $900 during the autumn months. If it wasn’t for lack of vacation time at work, I would have booked something at that time to visit friends/family in France.

It's more of a prestige project to have a hotel attached to the terminal. Is it just me or has the hotel's location been moved to beside the rail line at the transborder end in the latest artist rendering? If it ever gets built, it would make more sense to plop it there. If PD were to ever hit a massive home run and take YOW to say 10 million pax/year all that ramp space where gates 28-34 of the old ATB once stood coupled with the long-term parking would be needed for a terminal expansion. Obviously a pipe dream in terms of traffic numbers at this point, but you probably don't want a modern hotel blocking that space when it might be needed for terminal ops 20 years from now.
This has always been a wonder of mine. I'm not very familiar with airport capacity. How much can YOW handle per year? When would be the point of a needed terminal expansion and how many more gates are needed? I see on their master plan it shows a terminal expansion on the East side of the present terminal.

Not sure about the back of house capacity but I'm sure it's proportional to gates and we could double our pre-pandemic passenger numbers which seems very far away and still be fine with 23 gates if we look at US airports in the 10 million class that is common. Sure you can't find a seat sometimes and will have to switch gates with minor delays etc. But you don't pay $50 per segment in taxes and sure a lot of that is differences in government policy but some of that is airports not being accountable for their spending so we get Cadillac airports especially compared to the rest of our public infrastructure.
