Most consider tallness of a building superficial, but to me they make the downtown experience more interesting for residents and tourists. There's a cool ambiance that is added when you are walking down the street and there is a 900' tower in the foreground. Especially at night, because of the lighting effect. I hope Sim City is serious about the swagger thing. The city needs some 900' plus towers.

I disagree. A 100m tall, architecturally interesting building will draw more attention than a tall and bland building. Unless it's monumentally tall, only the visual interest matters. That's why no tourist goes to Burnaby and takes pictures of the inane junk they build. Seriously. Nobody notices or cares about the difference between 150m and 250m except us weirdos on a forum like this.

Skyscrapers are one of many elements that make up a city's downtown. Metrotown has not much of a "downtown" feeling at all.
Shangri La isn't the most architecturally pleasing building , but I have noticed people on Robson Street looking up at it. Just one of many elements that add to the downtown vibe.

Metrotown's lack of a downtown feeling is because everything is too spread out and there is a mall in the middle of all the towers. Silver Drive is the only street that kinda feels "Downtown" because it's a narrow street cutting through a canyon of tall buildings. From almost every other spot in Metrotown you can either see a SFH, a strip mall, or Metropolis, all of which are the epitome of suburban and the antonym of "Downtown".
