I wish they could have re-purposed the old smoke stack. Those brick structures add something special to any skyline.

If keeping the old stack wasn't an option, I think new brick structures, or concrete with colourful murals would have been better. I just don't think the chrome will work.

Is there to be a cafe or restaurant incorporated into this project? I'm thinking no, unfortunately.

They should've done the walls with the same old stone of the wall next to it.

In theory, you won't see those walls anyway once the curtain is installed:

Wouldn’t that be verboten? It seems that you can’t make any new addition to a building look as if it actually belongs to that building. By using the same stone, they would have made it look harmonious – but worse still, they would have been recreating the look of older construction. That would have caused too much confusion as people would not have been able to tell which parts of the building were new and which were the original.

The look of all new construction MUST BE INCONSISTENT AND JARRING so that it stands out as being new.

[Or is it that way simply because architects these days don’t have the skills to create designs that can blend with and compliment existing buildings? It takes a whole other level of ability (and a lot more work) to get to thoroughly know a previous design and to work with that knowledge to create something that is compatible. It is a lot easier to just slap on a design that was made for some other purpose and claim that it contrasts by design.]

I think they’ll completely demolish that stone building for the next phase of the construction, along with the visible warehouse-looking building with the smokestacks. The guts will be moved to the new part and then they build the rest for additional capacity. From the plans it’s obvious that the undulating terrace continues on and the part of that stone building that juts out is in the way. Just because it’s old stone doesn’t mean it gets heritage designation.

I'm a little bit surprised by the scale of the Tunney's Pasture station.

Great, large park surrounded by surface parking lots. I wonder how the 10 year discussions are going about Tunney's redevelopment?

I wonder if that could be a suitable start for the Jardin Canadensis Garden (https://jardincanadensisgarden.ca/) instead of the Experimental Farm? The garden could flow from there out to the river’s edge.

I think I'd prefer to keep it where it is...and expend more effort connecting it/integrating it with the new hospital campus. They have pretty extensive ideas for how the park along the canal could be further developed/grown. There's so much already there.

The lot where they are staging the riverfront plant would be a bitchin' spot for a pair of 40-60 story buildings after they are finished. Imagine those views!!!

Well, if we are building for what will be there instead of what is there now, that green space will be for all the housing on the Tunney's campus.

Our community has lost its greenspace while it is being reconstructed and 'improved' so I appreciate the idea of existing greenspace being 'finished' and the disruption being the building of new housing. What I've got is existing thousands of residents plus thousands more residential units being added and the existing green space being fenced off to be 'renovated' for the next few years removing river/greenspace access.

National Capital Commission
@NCC_CCN

Our Board approved the final developed design for the Modernized Gatineau Energy Centre (MGEC)

The new centre will be:

✔️A central heating and cooling plant powered by electricity

Connecting these plants on the Hill and at Tunney's is a lot of work.
Still not sure what's the point doing it...
