The whitewater park was scheduled to open around Memorial Day weekend, but I'm told that it could be later sometime in June...

Is capitol tower building downtown in use, as well as the old Arnov building. I know the bottom half is used as self storage now. I hate seeing the buildings in that area of downtown deteriorating.

Several months ago it was said that Capital Towers would undergo a major renovation. It sounds the same as the Grove Court Apartments nearby that has had several buyers and renovation promises, but no actual “real” work has begun yet either. The Aronov building had the same promise of a renovation and apartment conversion before the owner decided on turning it into a storage facility. A horrible waste of a promising building, unless they know something we don't about the structure.

The official grand opening date has been set for Montgomery Whitewater park. It is July 8th, with a soft opening planned during the Memorial Day weekend.

Good timing for the opening. Time to see if this thing is gonna be the magnet leaders are hoping for.

I think a lot of supporting infrastructure improvements should have been already in place before getting this close to opening day. Officials will be behind the eight ball playing catch-up after it opens.

This is an underdeveloped area of the city so it may help to jumpstart some revitalization in that part of town, including Lagoon Park. It's good to see lots of new school buildings being built around town.

LoL, All the time... all the time. That's what they do. But White Water is not gonna let that stop its' progress. It's full steam ahead with the hiring process going on now.
But surprisingly, after 40 years the legislature did approve the building of a new Statehouse downtown. RSA is already putting out bids for it.

Depends on what RSA wants. I understand they're soliciting proposals, but I'm scared to death it's gonna turn out to be a big hulking block of a building, trimmed in gleaming brass (or whatever the gold colored metal is they keep shining so bright on their buildings).

They have a chance to really make a mark on the city; hopefully they'll make the most of it.

I feel the same way. They seem to have a love affair with big, bulky block buildings. But being that the land they're considering on using is not very large, it may lend to the building being more of a boxy mid-rise than anything else.

It's all floodplain. I guess you could develop some of the agricultural land, but I imagine things like insurance would be through the roof.

Even still, I'd prefer the land between Prattville and MGM remain natural; I think it's rather appealing.

Because of it being in a floodplain many developers thought it would be rather expensive - but not impossible - to build any structures on that land. So former mayor Bobby Bright floated the idea of getting the city and state to create a state park on the land with walking and biking trails. He wanted a pedestrian bridge to connect the land to the riverwalk, but so far nothing concrete came out of it. There are so many plans and ideas that have been floated for that piece of real estate over the years its unreal...

Very curiously excited to see what this means for the area..I know EJI had already been slowly creeping northward but this is definitely an interesting leap for sure!

EJI has just announced another construction project for downtown. Details are limited for now but they will construct what they're calling a "cultural center" near the Five Point/Cottage Hill area with a pedestrian bridge across Montgomery Street that will connect it to a parking area.
