It certainly doesn't look like what one would expect Vancouver to! (the mountains would normally feature prominently in that view)

I live just out of view of these pics though, and that's the part of the city I know best. Vancouver is a lot grittier and more industrial than it usually gets credit for - it's not all just shiny glass condos.

I find it crazy that you can tell this image is well over a year or two old, only because there are so many new buildings that'd be in this frame by now. It's strange thinking that St. James Cathedral is now surrounded by towers.

Toronto Skyline from the Niagara Escarpment in Hamilton. The Burlington Skyway and steel mills on Burlington Bay are seen in the foreground. The CN tower is about 58km (36 miles) away in this shot:

Excellent shot I grabbed from the Sens game on TSN tonight. Peace tower with Lebreton/Tunneys/Westboro skylines in the background. New arena (and Ryan Reynolds home base) will be just to the left of the photo just south of the Parkway pictured.

Interesting angle. those cranes look ready to knock the top off the Peace Tower.
With only 7 games left it might be the last chance to see a shot like that for a Sens game!

Maybe. The existing tallest (previously called Fenwick tower and now called the Vuze) underwent a huge renovation which basically stripped it down to the frame and rebuilt. According to the owner there were modifications including a couple extra floors added at the same time increasing its height enough that it's taller than the new building's final height. So we know for sure that the new building will be taller than the old Fenwick tower pre-reno, but we don't know for sure about the new "Vuze beyond the claims of the new owner.

Either way, the new building is by far the tallest in that part of town which is almost 3km from the Vuze and doesn't have many highrises around it.

There's been some discussion and uncertainty around this but the Wikipedia height given for Fenwick is 106 m, Richmond Yards (pictured above) is 103 m, and 7177 Quinpool Road (U/C) is 111 m.

Lower Don Lands: The new Don River Valley u/c is on the far right, eventual (spectacular) home to a large new community on Villiers Island.

And the flagship of the Kings Wharf development is supposed to be over 100m as well iirc. Amazing how we'll suddenly have multiple buildings over 100m after going for decades with Fenwick's teaser height of about 98m. Reminds me of Toronto going for decades with FCP just shy of 300m and now suddenly several buildings over 300m u/c at once.

There are a lot of obscure proposals now that are ~30+ floors and hard to keep track of. I think Dartmouth might have a dozen or more of these, and somebody was suggesting the 3x30 floor development was as of right meaning that one day they might just get a construction permit and start suddenly without much public info. It is something like 800 units (actual density that will reshape the area) and given the housing situation it would be easy to rent those out.

30 storeys seems to be common for new construction. I wonder if there will be any 150 m proposals soon. There is a large site next to Richmond Yards and probably not much in the way of objective reasons to limit height there.

Technically we've already had at least one proposal in the 150m range with the previous Text park proposal. But that square block around Canada Post, the former Piercy's etc. would be perfect for something tall.
