Looks pretty close to the renders so far. Not extravagant but hopefully will look better with the windows in and some lighting/accents.

It fills a gap and street-front along Rideau St and brings active use (hotel), both of which are positives. I hope they fix and reopen that laneway next to it, providing another connection point between Rideau and the Market. Clean it up, add lots of light (to make it brighter and safer) and hopefully a continuous flux of people will keep this from becoming the dark dangerous alley it used to be.

It's a different world than when this started. All the light in the world won't stop the drug activity now. Interesting if a hotel has more sway than residents in the area do to actually police some of it again.

Unless something has changed I was reading the city documents on this proposal and it mentioned it would allow the developers to extend their underground parking under this alleyway in exchange for its redevelopment - so it might well be in the cards.

I don't think it would take too much to be honest. I just think if it were all filled with pavers, lots of lighting, maybe art/mural, maybe music on a speaker, etc... it could be "welcoming" enough to become a fairly safe passage from Rideau/OttawaU to the market. The previous Waller Mall had gates at each end, a thinner passageway, minimal lighting and trees which all contributed to the dark/sneaky area that would encourage (or hide) shady activities. It doesn't help that currently there isn't much of value on that stretch of George St but the Salvation army, but hopefully that will change with the hotel/condo project between York & George.

It should be significantly better. IIRC the siteplan/floorplan includes a restaurant at ground level with a patio opening onto Waller mall; that should really activate it and bring it to life.

What is that paneling on the tower section? Just awful.

I do like that the podium portion will seem to have a light and breezy feel from the sidewalk with all that glasswork. It's not a stellar design in any way but it seems like it will have a better feel from the sidewalk then Les Suites or the Novotel.

Just like the Travelodge tower portion... it looks like they are vomiting into cake pans, baking it in the sun and then attaching it to the building with a couple tubes of PL Premium.

I'm hoping the western face and top of the tower can redeem what I am seeing so far based on the renders. I think a light grey paneling as shown in the renders would also have looked much better than this dark grey. Color consistency is definitely an issue with these types of finishes, as is being demonstrated here. Hopefully it's mostly moisture/humidity from the weather but it seems pretty off.

Just for the record I meant no disrespect to PL Premium, you know you my boy PL

Agreed light grey or beige seemed nicer on the renders than this dark charcoal colour.

According to the renders, that corner is supposed to be all glass as well as the top floors (with the fins which would be a nice finishing touch). So just like you, I'm holding my breath and hoping the final look is a bit more elevated.

And yes, I also agree, the podium being mostly glass definitely helps and breaks up Rideau Street which is mostly older brick buildings with smaller windows & entrances.

I would have no issues with CP I & II across the street if it wasn't for that AWFUL podium. The bank, shoppers and weed store are awful storefronts in addition to the banged up stucco.

That super cool lit up cube thing has also been gone since the summer. I loved that contraption. There is one further up the road in front of the library and another one at Wurtemburg.

Why can't we have nice things? Sometimes I take my less informed city dweller friends on some tours and those 3 cubes were always worth the walk up Rideau st. for me. How sad is that haha.. nonetheless

Rideau st. is in dire need of some love. All those information sign/screen tings have been out of order for a while now. It just makes it look run down and bleak. Either repair them or remove them FFS.

Yep... the renders made it look like the podium and that corner portion of the tower were going to be all clear glass. To see these random teal panels is quite disappointing.

I spotted them while driving down Nicholas the other day and thought to myself "no.... no... it can't be..." *puke*

It's going to be a terrible looking tower. At least it will be a different kind of terrible looking. This doesn't bode well for the Major Building's tower or the next tallest in the CBD on Bay Street.

Rimap pulling an 'Ottawa' on Ottawa here, Main+Main did the same on their Vanier development, hopefully Rimap doesn't pull one on their shared site on Albert. Wait...what if they are both in on the prank and the Main+Main part of 400 Albert turns to shit like the AC Marriot as well.

I have to disagree there. With Claridge, the beige colour, the flatness of the cladding, the tiny windows and balconies. AC isn't super well executed, but it's superior to the plazas in every way. Best of all, there's just one of it!

I'm not too sure, will see what the final project looks like but the cheap looking red brick panels and the window/teal panes don't give me a lot of confidence.

Other than street-level and the fact that there are 4x almost identical ones, CP1 (for example) as a tower on its own is not horrible at all.
