It's just so bizarre and blatantly poor design, surely someone somewhere in the design team would have noticed. And surely anyone inspecting the work would also see that its going to lead to a mess. I just can't imagine it being left like this.

Same - at least we are equally aghast - but.. we sorta knew this was coming.. It's like someone tried to design it with no concept of traditional design based purely off visual aesthetic - there is a reason a lot was done the way it was originally - like someone said stone lintels are supposed to represent supporting a window - so why put a break in the middle - stone erodes - so why put a spout directly on top - and there is a thing called harmonious design - so why not properly size the stone and space it out appropriately? I just don't get it - they had one job, ONE JOB. Don't fuck it up! They failed.

I am not too TOO concerned about the uneven stone, at least that is a bit more reflective of how things might have ACTUALLY been built back in the day without precision cutting.

I mean it's still better than spandrel glass but god.. its just so cheap..

I think the problem is we have gotten used to the excellence of core urban, so our standards are higher - and while I sometimes feel core urban tries to play the safe side in visual aesthetic by sticking to simple stone carved shapes (probably cheaper to do, but it ain't no royal connaught cornices for example) I still feel when it comes to designing visually pleasing stuff, they know their shit.

Also for those who say craftsmanship is dead - you can LITERALLY feed a design into a 3d program and have a robotic arm carve the element into stone - or just 3d print it - that kinda stuff has never been easier technology wise. They replicated entire parts of destroyed architecture in europe doing this.

Sigh.. we need more specialists.

Joseph Mancinelli @joemancinelli

Great to be on-site today for the roof topping event at our LiUNA King William Project in Hamilton. It is the skill and perseverance of all of our workers and contractor partners that continue to build up the communities we call home. Congratulations Brothers and Sisters!

Meant to post the picture I took the other day. The upper floors look much better with the balconies installed.

Installing these vertical pieces and interestingly coloured balconies. Looks to be those black rectangles. They look like spandrel panels rather than brick which is what we all thought they'd be.

I love seeing these when I can catch a glimpse from Cannon.

The other view I'm loving more and more is the one from the Skyway. At night the skyline looks way more impressive with the additional lights... daytime too, but especially night when it doesn't blend into the escarpment. It helps having some of Stelco's big buildings out of the way, with fewer clouds of steam coming from the industrial complex, but still.

These buildings definitely make Hamilton feel more "21st Century". I'm really excited for 75 James to start flying up. Gore Park is going to look amazing with these tall glass towers surrounding it. I think you'll be able to see 75 James from Gore?

Try that on an extremely windy day, while driving next to a truck pulling a 53-footer:

Not quite the same look as the original render - so there is still hope for the front.. I know this was an older render for the towers, not sure they ever made a newer render for the back

lol dude you're extremely critical of this one. The King William side looks fantastic, I don't think you have much to worry about. This project is 100x nicer looking than literally anything this city has put up in the past 10 years.

I AM extremely critical because of where it is - on a street that is practically unbroken traditional heritage design - on both sides - and no, compared to core urban it's not - with the issues of the facade already detailed farther up. We just want to see something properly built without shortcuts. People can build whatever they want anywhere else - but north side gore park - I have extremely high expectations. The king william side does look good from far away - closeup there are the aforementioned issues, but I will still accept it as you said as being better than most condo podiums for the past 10 years.

Besides I'm an architecture graduate - it's my job to be the simon cowell of critical architecture design lol

I am not saying it's terrible, only that I want the look of the back to be in the front because the original render for the podium of the front was ghastly - so I really hope they have changed it to reflect the back is all.

What School of Architecture did you attend? I probably sound like a dick, but this just seems very hard to believe given you're trying to sell magic water and NFTs (eg. scams) in your signature.

Noone asked for your dick opinion on my personal life dude -as a result im not obliged to take your opinion seriously.

I went to mohawk and graduated with 2 degrees - computer services technician and architectural technologist. We learned how to build a building from the ground up, draft a building in cad, do estimating, building code, planning, concrete production, hvac lighting plumbing and even built a building design wise from the ground up and presented it to a team of real world architects for our final year - so you can take your nasty ignorant comments and frankly shove them. I have more knowledge of how a building is put together than most people here do, and more knowledge of the history of this city. Architectural technologists are more valuable because they don't just make pretty drawings - they understand all the science and physics of wood concrete and steel and load bearing science that goes behind actually making a building.

So yes, you DO sound like a dick, and you really should try things before you knock them, or you just come across as ignorant. NFTs are only scams if theyre on eth -- otherwise theyre just digital trading cards. Mine are on wax blockchain which is a gaming blockchain so they also have utility in games. So not a scam. In addition I am an artist and have showcased my work in hamilton and toronto in galleries restaurants and shows and been in supercrawl - so having my art as nfts also prevents others from trying to steal it and post it as their own work as nfts. As for "magic water" its farmed from the ground out of a volcanic fissure with trace elements of many things you don't get in regular water and has many health benefits. It's even had studies done on it, and has been used for thousands of years and has references in ancient egyptian texts. Just because you don't understand something doesn't make it "magic". It's just a form of science you're unfamiliar with. So yeah, fuck off.

This is all I am going to say on the subject - if the admin considers it derailing then feel free to delete my post, as the thread should be about the project, not about what people think of my opinions frankly.

Sounds like a cool program at Mohawk, I don't doubt you know more in those topics!

But on that note, based on my educational background (biomedicine), I can tell you for a fact that the water is a scam. These claims are incredibly disingenuous and are taking advantage of ignorant people with actual health issues. It literally claims "diminishes the threat of diseases and cancer, and with continued use can eliminate it completely". That's DISGUSTING that's you're trying to take advantage of those with cancer. You should be ashamed.

More claims: "can help in the promotion of weight loss", "can be used to treat wounds and speed their recovery - in some instances from a week up to a day", "helping to treat a lot of mental disorders", "de-aging your body"

Part of me is actually very tempted to report this company and get it shut down.
