People are discovering the problems and inherent contradictions with stroads intuitively. They want to go faster but also want to go to these streets with a ton of activity.

I actually don't think there should be parking on Bank. I want the restaurants to have more street patios. Put wider sidewalks and protected bike lanes. Build parking structures off street and charge recovery rate for parking.

hate to ask, but can someone remind me where the 2023 master plan map is ? I can't seem to find it after a quick dig through the files on the website.

The study isn't complete. They are currently working on the policy part of the plan, and have just published the feedback that they've received so far.

The full study (with all maps of future projects, etc.) won't be complete until 2024 at the earliest.

Funny guy. I should rephrase my question.

Can someone share with me the draft map for the 2023 transportation master plan, should one exist yet? I noted some earlier post on this thread discussing changes in the map, so wondering what they refer to.

The only link that works for me is the Active transportation one and the initial TMP one.

Fixed the links. If they don't work, they should if you follow the Engage Ottawa link and click on the originals.

The juxtaposition between what the City of Ottawa considers to be an Equity Priority Neighbourhood, and what the City of Ottawa is actually doing, or plans to do, in any of these supposed "Priority" neighbourhoods, is rather jarring.

So maybe, some time in the second half of the century, after we've built LRT to the farthest corners of the existing suburbs (and almost certainly beyond them), we'll start thinking about developing a framework to plan an architecture to guide the policy that elaborates a proposal to consider options for maybe doing something about transit in the "inner urban transect"?

Oh wow, a feasibility study for a sidewalk is a priority project?

Dream big, Ottawa.

Dream big.

What are you talking about? What feasibility study, what sidewalk, what priority? Be specific.

You realize the evaluation of transit projects are in the next phase of the TMP, don't you?

Do you actually believe the City will prioritize the Equity Priority Neighbourhoods? I'm expecting the transit TMP will be 90% identical to the current. Maybe the Cumberland Transitway will become the Cumberland LRT. Worse yet, the City might make the functional S-E Transitway LRT red.

In table 1 of the Active transportation Project List, 13 of the priority projects are Feasibility Studies for a sidewalk... I'd have to agree that this is absurd

The Crosstown Bikeways map shows some really odd missing links in the east end that seem incredibly easy to connect. Why does St. Joseph suddenly stop at Jeanne D’Arc and then start again at Bearbrook? And then Brian Coburn suddenly ends at Navan Road. Presumably connecting Orleans to the inner suburbs is the most important connection to make for travel patterns. The lack of a connection to Blackburn Hamlet via Navan Road has been known to be dangerous for ages. People have died trying to cycle on Navan. Why would they not try to make that connection safe?

There is some oddity in the west end too. Why have the Baseline bikeway suddenly stop at Woodroffe instead of having it continue to Bells Corners?

I asked this of my previous councilor as it happens everywhere in this City. When rebuilding a 6-lane stroad including curbs, slip lane islands and intersections at Riverside and Industrial, I asked why a busy bike path and the only pedestrian connection to FRIGGING HURDMAN STATION isn't prioritized and a right hand slip lane deleted, and he said 'we're just doing a repave, not a rebuild, so no changes possible'. ALL asphalt, concrete, and street lights were replaced. What a crock.

I suspect I'll get the same answer regarding ramps and intersections at Bank/Riverside.

The answer is budget limitations. I have been told that until there is major adjacent development or a major road rebuild, cycling and pedestrian infrastructure will not be improved. Of course, if there is a fatality, action may be taken. The sad thing is that 1980s and 1990s road building offered no more than a painted line on the side of the road providing a minimal cycling lane, and sometimes not even that. It will take decades to eliminate disjointed infrastructure. Thankfully, the NCC had the foresight to build cycle infrastructure along the parkways back in the 1970s.

Am I missing something? Isn't the Crosstown Bikeways Network just a vision. Most of what's shown doesn't exist and there's no definitive timeline or budget. Why would they draw up a vision of the ultimate cycling network with such obvious missing links included (especially the really obvious east end ones)?

I'm glad they are including them rather than dismissing the sidewalks as "too difficult" to implement, because that is what would happen if they weren't feasibility studies.

I believe what their transit evaluation criteria says: 7.5 points will be based on number of riders using the project that are from an equity priority neighbourhood:

Whether that actually results in projects that benefit equity priority neighbourhoods remains to be seen. Agreed the City doesn't have a good track record -- Jasmine Crescent Station I'm looking at you

We all know they aren't removing the right turn slip lane there. I'd respect an honest sorry cars have priority answer. In general I don't mind them as you then don't have to watch for right turns and cross traffic at the same time but that one really is deadly. Plus you might wait 3 lights as by the time you get across the slip it's too late to get priority to keep going with the green light.
