At least the 100/St. Mary's interchange is already well under way. But will anything get started on the 100/McGillivray or 100/St. Anne's before the likely change in government? Or do those ones end up on the backburner for another 7 or 8 years?

The NDP like to spend money, and in reality all of the South Perimeter upgrades to freeway standard was initiated under the previous Sellinger, NDP government. I would be blown away if they were to cancel this.

151 mil: sounds like that will include grade separation at the cpr tracks and probably upgrade the road from the current St. Mary's project to the 59 interchange

That project includes the St Anne's diamond and rail overpass. There is not enough room to build each one separately. The Diamond at St Anne's should only cost around $40-$50m.

The $560 million touted to upgrade our ”commerce routes” is roughly the amount needed to complete the BRT expansion of Portage and Main which I would argue would effect a lot more people and generate a larger ROI for the province.

You know if we stopped worrying about building projects so that truckers can bypass the city 5 minutes faster we might have a respectable city centre where people want to spend their time at. Oh well I know my sentiment is in the minority here.

almost every city in NA has a system like that, why would we decide to be different? and it's much more than 5 minutes when you consider the # of lights.

bypass around Morris is much needed as well!

That's good news. That railway crossing should have been grade-separated years ago, much like the one at Dugald Road. The rest of the remaining grade crossings are much more lightly used.

Upon further reflection, I am disappointed that this doesn't include an accelerated schedule for the entire south perimeter.

As an aside on the south perimeter study, they should have included the Headingly Bypass and Deacon's Corner in their study area when they were originally conceiving it.

Also, have they talked about dates for the McGillivray and Ste Anne's Rd projects?

The press release from today on the MULTI-YEAR INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENT STRATEGY includes six major twinning projects, which will provide 71 km of newly twinned highway.

So this averages 12 kms on 6 different highways. Do we know which ones?
- Highway 1 to Ontario
- Highway 6 from Perimeter
- Highway 59 south to Niverville
- others?

how about 59 north to Grand Beach, Hwy 14 from Winkler to 75, or Highway 8 to Gimli, or parts of highway 16 (Yellowhwead)

I believe McGillivray is supposed to come out this year. I am guessing St Anne's will be a couple of years yet. My guess would be 2025/26.

Those are pretty good guesses, 1E, 6 near 101, 59S, 3 towards Sanford, maybe 52? Possibly 16 towards Gladstone? A stretch of 10, maybe a few km N of Brandon and the part around Minnedosa?

If you look at the AADT map and pick out the six busiest stretches of 2 lane road, that should give a pretty good idea as to which highways are getting twinned!

Pth 1, 3, 6, 15, 52, 59.

They had already released a lot of this information in their previous investment plan. This is the previous document: https://www.gov.mb.ca/mit/myhis/pdf/2022_multi-year_highways_investment_strategy.pdf

Yea it seems like they're implying they'll be done sequentially, not simultaneously.

They have stated in press releases that McGillivray is set to start in 2024 (When St Mary's is done) so we should be seeing some more info regarding RFPs and such this year. Hopefully St Anne's is started before McGillivray wraps up but as Biff mentioned 25/26 is likely the go year.

I hope you're right on that one. St Mary's is estimated at $135m and the only obvious difference is a bit more of Perimeter getting shifted to accommodate a wider median and St Mary's getting run through a farmer's field for a couple kms.

On TCH twinning, I'm curious:
Can contractors from Kenora bid on the jobs in Manitoba, and can contractors from Manitoba bid on twinning jobs in Ontario?

They should be able to. Unless there are limitations if project is delivered under the "New West Partnership" thing. But I'm not 100% sure what that all means.

@Biff - Looks like we have to reset our expectations that a diamond costs 30-60 million in this province. They're essentially budgeting 130-150 mil per interchange.

McGillivray would be by far the easiest to build as both Perimeter and McGillivray are being rerouted (east and south, respectively), so they can build the overpass in a field for the most part. Yet 150 million is earmarked for that project.

I hope they come in way cheaper and they can use that cash for additional Perimeter improvements.
