Great news! So we can pretty much expect full on construction to start any day now then. They said demolition will happen early Feb.

Yikes, 5 levels of underground so close to downtown and LRT?? Even if they started demo tomorrow then, this probably wouldn't rise above ground for a year, then mid-2026 occupancy give-or-take.

Hopefully CP doesn't cause any delays. The rail tunnel is adjacent to the site.

Cameron Kroetsch just posted on Twitter that a number of trees ('green friends' according to him) along Hunter and Caroline will be removed this week for this development. I'm not really sure what he was expecting, there is simply no room for them. They have to go. With that being said, there will almost certainly be a landscaping plan with more suitable replacement trees. That is clear in all the renders.

They are (mostly) Red Pines too, which are not very tolerant to urban life and are not native to the Hamilton area (the natural range of them ends north of Toronto). Nor do I find them a particularly attractive tree.

Even if the building had been designed around them they probably would have died afterwards from increased wear and tear from the new development and it’s residents.

The site will be better off with some new street trees, I just hope they have designed them to be supportive of mature growth (lots of soil volume, designed to keep salt away from the tree base, etc)

Totally agree. I'm certain that a professional landscape architect has been brought on that will select trees that are suitable for the area, provide the necessary shade and looks and will be successful.

I find Cameron Kroetsch is very anti-development. He's getting distracted by the removal of a handful of trees that don't even provide the urban canopy that he's looking for, while at the same time potentially holding up a development that this city desperately needs. We need the tax revenue that these buildings will provide. We do not need these trees - for which will be replaced anyway.

He is tweeting that there should be a 2 week delay so people can come say goodbye to these trees....

Pathetic. People like this are why the political left are losing credibility.

The City has Tree Protection Guidelines which say if a developer removes trees they need to restore it at 1:1 ratio or pay. This is a massive development so there obviously a landscape plan that the developer had to provide as part of the application process which is reviewed and approved by the City.

My issue with Cameron is that a simple call to staff he would have all his answers to any development questions but instead he needs to undermine staff and go directly to twitter in a guise of "transparency".

Exactly, this guy needs to stay in his lane. He clearly has no clue what he's talking about either. I'm sure city staff love him. First it was the GO rail line expansion, now a multi million dollar condo development. Trying to hold up development this city desperately needs so that he can virtue signal about the environment or whatever else.

Also, anyone who calls trees "our green friends" has absolutely no credibility

if anyone in his ward admits to voting for him, next election pls say goodbye to Cameron, among others.
I would love to know what side deals were cut to get him on the police board. Hes only there to be a thorn on behalf of his anarchist and antifa friends.

A few of those red pines are actually dead anyway, I actually just took a walk by this afternoon. Does he even know that? My guess is he wants to pick a fight with a 'big bad developer' to appeal to his clueless base.

All trees have been removed on site here. I'm glad that Lamb didn't capitulate on this issue. I hope that we can now see the demolition start any week now.

This will probably be Hamilton's nicest condo development, by a long shot. Lamb builds absolute class towers in Toronto. Glad we'll finally get a taste of that here, and i'm sure it will put pressure on other developers to meet a similar standard.

Just a reminder of Lamb's project in Toronto "King Charlotte". Television City appears to be a copy paste job.

Here's a pool deck from another one of his condos on King:

Cameron mentioned the tree cutting last night and said his issue with it was that there was no warning about it, and that the development isn't supposed to even start for another 3 years so the trees could have been maintained for at least another year or two.

lol the building is supposed to be done in 3 years. They literally have building permits filed, and should be starting construction in a few months. They were in front of the CoA today for a variance to clear up a zoning error that was identified when they filed their permit. They literally have their demolition and shoring permits issued.

Yeah that doesn't sound right Ritsman. The building should be mostly done in three years. Demolition is literally starting in a matter of weeks, and so excavation shortly after that. That's also confirmed by Lamb himself.
