I take nothing for granted and will be sure all 4 voters in my house vote for Vallas.

No surprise, but Wilson endorses Vallas.

^ Good.

Wilson's loyalists seem pretty damn loyal.

Vallas's chances are looking brighter by the day.

Thank God.

Yep, the poll from yesterday already showed Vallas getting a large majority of Wilson voters. This should help a bit more. Wilson got nearly 10% of the vote too.

To only the surprise of ultra progressive whites on the north side. I think anyone who knows Wilson could see this coming. They are taking for granted some of the wards on the south and west sides,. Wilson beat Johnson in every single 80%+ Black ward in the city.

I wouldn't say he did bad. He did get double digit percentage overall. He did better than Vallas from a ward perspective, but Vallas did beat him in various precincts. Lightfoot and Wilson though beat Johnson in all of those wards which had tens of thousands of votes.

I think tho he didn't absolutely demolish Vallas there either like many might think. He may have had something like 33% more votes than Vallas. Wilson beat Johnson tho by just over 3000 votes there.

Thoughts on the debate? I thought Johnson was a smooth talker but he attacked way too much. Like every single answer. Was a little weird IMO.

Here's the YT link in case anyone wants to watch the debate:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7tiyDKvM6U

Brandon was weak here. Vallas tried to keep to discussing solutions, while Johnson would not stop saying Vallas "hangs out with right wing extremists" - Almost as though Vallas has QAnon Shaman on speed dial.

Johnson also kept doing this weird thing of trying to compare being a teacher to being a police officer on the front lines.

Looks like Lake Research Partners released a new Mayoral Runoff poll that shows Johnson at 45%, Vallas at 40%, and undecided at 14%.

Hmmm, this seems to go against a lot of other polls that I've seen. Is it trustworthy?

Not sure, responses seem mixed. It’s an internal poll, thought I’d post the info here to get other’s opinions on it. I haven’t done much research into previous polls they’ve put out.

I'm taking this with a huge grain of salt. As noted, it seems like a bit of an outlier.

In any election for any office anywhere in the universe, internal polls that are made public should always be taken with a mountain of salt.

They are often released in a vain attempt to create the appearance of momentum.

Chicago mayor race polls paid for by Johnson, Vallas campaigns show many voters still undecided

Friday, March 10, 2023 7:17PM

Dueling Chicago mayoral polls show chunk of voters remain undecided

With only a few weeks until the runoff election, dueling internal polls released by Paul Vallas and Brandon Johnson show roughly 15% of voters remain undecided.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Two new polls released by Brandon Johnson's and Paul Vallas' campaigns most notably show a healthy chunk of voters are still undecided.

The polls were paid for by each campaign separately, and the only thing they agree on is that there's still plenty of undecided voters still out there.

The poll paid for by the Johnson campaign has the Cook County commissioner with a five point lead over former Chicago Public Schools CEO Vallas with 14% of voters undecided.

The poll paid for by the Vallas campaign shows he has a nine percentage point lead over Johnson, with 15% undecided.

A new poll of more than 800 likely Chicago mayoral election voters found that former Chicago Public Schools CEO Paul Vallas is holding a lead over Cook County Commissioner Brandon Johnson, and several key voting blocs could play a significant role in determining the outcome of the race.

The poll, conducted by Victory Research, asked 806 likely runoff voters about their preferences in the upcoming election, with Vallas collecting 44.9% of the vote. Johnson grabbed 39.1% of the vote, with 16% of respondents saying they are still undecided for the April 4 runoff.

The margin of error in the poll was 3.45%, with a mix of respondents on land lines and cell phones, according to the polling company.

Adding some intrigue to the proceedings was the number of voters who said that their choices could change. According to the poll, 18% of respondents said they could change their minds prior to Election Day, meaning that one-third of the voters either haven’t settled on a candidate or could move to the other in the two-man race.

Victory Research also cited demographic data that showed two key groups that could help determine the outcome of the race. Voters living near the city’s lakefront, normally a key constituency in the race, are narrowly favoring Vallas by a 44-to-41 margin.

Latinx voters could also play a pivotal role in the race, as the two candidates are in a virtual tie in that demographic, with Vallas ahead by a 39.9% to 38.3% margin.

As the two candidates prepare for the stretch run of the election, they continue to collect endorsements...

Alderpeople Michelle Harris (8th Ward), Anthony Beale (9th Ward), David Moore (17th Ward), Derrick Curtis (18th ward), and Emma Mitts (37th Ward) all endorsed Vallas today. So did the Illinois State Senate President Emil Jones.

US Rep James Clyburn, from South Carolina, endorsed Johnson. So did Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders.
