IIRC he is also the proponent of the Wild Fox Drive development. If my memory serves me correctly he wanted to start construction this year on that?

The Federal Government has announced over $10 million in funding for the Port and for the Harbour Bridge.

• "Up to $7.3 million for the remaining phases to rehabilitate the Saint John Harbour Bridge in Saint John, New Brunswick. The upgrades will extend the life of the bridge and support commercial movements. The New Brunswick Department of Transportation and Infrastructure is contributing up to $7.7 million, for a total investment of nearly $15 million.

• Up to $2.8 million to provide additional space for the Canada Border Services Agency to carry out its inspection activities for cargo arriving at the Port of Saint John. The project is expected to eliminate current congestion by allowing the Port of Saint John to handle the growing volume of containers. The Saint John Port Authority is contributing $2.8 million towards the project, for a total investment of $5.6 million".

A port official has also mentioned during the livestream of the announcement that this will help increase cargo capacity to 800,000TEUs by early 2024.

Flying halfway across the country for chump change seems stupid. Maybe there's an election coming up and they expect the new SJ-KV riding to be more competitive for Long than the old Saint John riding.

Long announced over a year ago he isn’t running in the next election. The Transport Minister has been in Belledune and Bathurst to announce funding for those communities aswell. Otherwise I would agree coming to SJ for such a small announcement wouldn’t be necessary.

Did he? It's not among the retiring MPs on Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/45th_Canadian_federal_election#Incumbents_not_running_for_re-election) and I never heard this. The way he was talking at the boundary redistribution hearing in Rothesay (where both he and Williamson opposed the change) sounded like he planned on running. I'm not seeing any news stories about this either.

He has commented it on Facebook before and I’ve been told by people in the know.

I’ve also heard he’s not reoffering but I thought the boundary changes only take effect in 2024. I suspect David Hickey is the heir apparent.

I don’t want to get too far down the political talk on the Saint John Thread but my understanding is that won’t be the case. He would be a sacrificial lamb due to the PM’s unpopular ratings and a shift in boundaries will pretty much guarantee a CPC win for both new ridings… He is a competent well liked councillor and I don’t think it would be smart to throw your hat in the ring when you have a wave coming at you.

I would guess if they are currently receiving investment funds from 2 levels of government, they stand a higher chance of approval.

In it's favour, the SSR process is supposedly able to safely use spent fuel from CANDU reactors. That's from their information on that link.

OK I've seen enough- this is not happening in the forseeable future. Time for 'permanent' fencing around the site. Market aside, he can afford 6' chainlink with black plastic slats around the hole's perimeter. The temporary fencing with advertising stretched over it won't cut it if shovels aren't going in the ground.

I'm surprised the city has been cool with the sidewalk on Charlotte from King to S Market being indefinitely closed, when proper fencing could easily re-open it. People just walk in the road to get from the top of King to the Market.

Unstable times? I understand The Wentworth is full and demand for good rental stock is high. As I understand it, construction costs are near prepandemic levels. I’m sick of seeing that disgrace at the top of king and if the business plan was based solely on govt offices then that was a huge mistake on his part. The City needs to step up and force his hand. Enough is enough.
