As I noted on this thread a few weeks ago, I had heard that the funding for the MainStreet apartment Tower had been stopped.


Does anybody out there have any updated info on this ? Has the funding been stopped on temporarily or has the project been cancelled?

Originally, an In N' Out was supposed to go in at that location but those plans fell through.

I think 10,000 college students downtown, right next to Temple Square, would do wonders for making downtown more vibrant, even if they are proudly stone-cold sober

I believe the article is predicting 10,000 online students unless I am missing something. The numbers they cite are for current and projected BYU Pathway (online) courses. Maybe the facilities would need to be expanded to accommodate becoming a large online university but have they mentioned expanding local classes recently? I would love to see it but it seems like they are focused elsewhere

You're probably right that the 10,000 refers to online enrolments. There isn't any way that the college's facilities could be scaled up to meet that number 'several years from now', especially since construction couldn't even start until after the Temple Square reconstruction projects are finished 'several years from now'.

Still, I hope they expand the college at that location. Online work/education has its place, but IMO it does not adequately replace the in-person work/education experience, especially with the extra goals the church has for its schools. In either case, having a college filled with students from around the world is a much better statement for the church to make with its headquarters than a sprawling, corporate-feeling mega-complex (like was pictured earlier). I grew up in Utah. I live in California.

Both states have their pluses and minuses. Neither is a bad place. People in California aren't that different than Utah, and vice versa.

Life is nuance. Life is subtle. And that's a lot more boring than the "all or nothing" hyperbole that frequently dominates cable news, sports news, and social media.
