From the reservation just recently opened, looks like WS have the following additional changes

YVR-YXE increase to daily
YVR-YQR increase to 6-7x weekly
YVR-YHZ increase to 6x weekly (Aug only)
YVR-YXJ increase to daily

YVR-ATL increase to daily
YVR-SAN increase to 3x weekly
YVR-HNL increase to daily through entire summer season
YVR-OGG increase to daily through entire summer season
YVR-PSP reduce to 2x weekly
YVR-PHX Sept-Oct service removed

YVR-SJD increase to 4x weekly
YVR-CUN increase to 3x weekly

Below are the ones I'm not too sure if it's increase/decrease/no change
YVR-YOW 11x weekly

Since I don't track WS frequency, I'm not really sure of any other changes. All the info are based on clues from Google flight, as flights that recently opened for reservation will not have emission info. And certainly, this method doesn't work for reduction or op day changes

Google flights usually takes a bit longer to fully update so I'd wait a day or two before seeing the flights available on there. Eg YVR-YHZ will definitely not be 6x weekly only for August

Same result from WS site. YVR-YHZ is 3x weekly in July and 6x weekly August.

^^Talk about a tale of two cities and two carriers in the West.

AC has all but retreated from YYC cancelling routes and slashing frequencies everywhere. While AC continues to build up YVR as capacity is transferred.
There is no way AC will have a significant presence in YYC again. That would be a huge mountain to have to climb again.

WS is obviously increasing its YYC hub but at the same time is adding flights (maybe a bit of a surprise) at YVR quite significantly. They’re really taking a huge 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 with so much capacity at YYC. Time will tell of course

I don’t really track WS as well but impressed with their confidence in the YVR market despite AC’s dominance

I’ll repost the transborder update once this is all settled

YVR’s Westjet transborder operations are (surprisingly) still about 40% of YYC’s after the latest round of changes.
YYC’s Air Canada transborder operations remains about 5% of YVR’s

Pretty telling stats there.

Honest question. How does WS' premium product compare to AC's business class? I've not flown WS for about 15 years now and am wondering how WS' premium product stacks up with AC.

WS is transitioning from having YYZ/YVR/YYC hubs to just YYC as a hub and YVR/YEG as strong focus cities with a sizeable presence. YEG is gaining a lot of flights too and is catching up with YVR in terms of the number of WS flights each has.

WS is reducing YVR-SFO to 1x daily, YVR-LAX to 2x daily, YVR-YLW to 6x daily, and YVR-YKA is being cut.

But there is also the daily ATL addition, 2x weekly BNA addition, and restoration of frequencies on all other domestic routes.

YVR is becoming a very strong focus city with regional BC and Hawaii subbing for WS. YVR is still a very importance piece of the WS strategy for sure.

Very similar, their 2x2 seats on MAX 8 are pretty much the same. WS has no IFE. AC food is a little better, IMO... and of course their lounges win (accept at YYC, the only place WS has their own actual lounge and it's actually very nice)

The pods are also similar. I've flown in the WS pods several times domestically, but not int'l which is a different soft product. I much prefer the aesthetic of the WS 787 cabin vs AC's, not that it really matters.

So with that data, the top 7 operators out of YVR for S23 will be:

1 AC 1077
2 WS 471
3 8P 185
4 UA 111
5 F8 107
6 YB 105
7 DL 70

I don't think any other carrier operate more than 10x daily flights. WS/8P/YB frequency are manually calculated, so may have errors. YB schedule is not finalized for S23, so calculation is based on current frequency of 4 routes (ZNA/YGG/YWH/YHS)

For W23 looks like F8 will overtake UA, as F8 will base another plane at YVR and already have more scheduled flights compared to S23...

For those who don't know, 8P is Pacific Coastal, and YB is Harbour Air.

Smile A question, if I may

.... some years back, it was announced (by Johnny Aussie, I think), that YVR was due to get a new route that would be "ground-breaking" and "game-changing."
My question is: did that route ever come to fruition, and which route was it? Delhi? Istanbul? / Or, conversely, was there no such game-changing route after all?
I hope this question is acceptable. It opened up intriguing possibilities at the time, and I recall Johnny saying it would be an airline that was "smaller than Delta, and larger than Croatian Airlines."
Thank you for your consideration, and if I missed it, excuse me.

The route did not happen, but their planes may have been around...

Not sure if it'll happen now that Covid is easing or if the opportunity was dashed by the pandemic.

Thank you for that clarification...
(What was the route, anyway?)

Other could correct me but I think the rumoured airline was LATAM. I remember hearing something about them wanting to start LIM-YVR.

In fact, I recall, some time years back, and about that time, that Lima was being considered. That would have made YVR a 5-continent airport, which would have been great.
I have heard that LIM is a good connecting hub for South America, and these days, I meet many Latin Americans who have moved here in the last year or two, and not only from Mexico.
The number of people from Brazil is noticeable (especially when hearing Portuguese spoken here and there so often) and I am hopeful that the Lima route or another S.A. city will make YVR a destination.

lol....That's not saying much.

DL has a fleet of over 900 aircraft (that's not even counting DL connection), and Croatia only 13. Only AA has more aircraft and I don't even think I can name an airline with a smaller fleet than 13 off the top of my head.

You were taking it literally. It was a tongue-in-cheek joke on Johnny's part.

OK I hope this is the final edit.

Some thoughts:
AC has really ramped up YVR transborder post covid, and the US carriers have generally cut back. WS has stayed pretty steady but some new routes.

Agitating as hell BOS and IAD can't be daily on AC, can we have some 220s please!

132 flights per week to SEA is nuts!

From Flair PR, YVR-AZA will be moved to PHX, maintaining 3x weekly. The new PHX flight is not in schedule yet, but should be early morning departure on day 135, as that's the only spot left for YVR schedule.

This should be all for YVR for W23. There's no room to add any more flight without cutting some.

Full Flair schedule for W23 will be:
18x weekly YYC
15x weekly YYZ
14x weekly YEG
7x weekly YLW
5x weekly YUL
4x weekly YKF
3x weekly YWG, YXE
2x weekly YOW

9x weekly PVR
7x weekly LAX, LAS
4x weekly SFO
3x weekly PHX, SJD

If the current schedule holds, YVR will have more flights in W23 compared to S23, and will once again be Flair's biggest base. But there's some room left on YYZ (#2 base) schedule though.

So confirmed 5 planes based at YVR? How many a/c per base?

But YEG is Flair’s fortress hub?
