The city never explains anything. I'm sure the people in Edgewater will appreciate having the road a little further from their back yards.
It is possible there was never any intention for the road to be that close to the houses long term, the ditch drop off along there is fairly steep.
And I just remembered, the new bridge has room under it on the north bank for a multiuse pathway, moving the road will allow a path over to Sherwood to be added in the future. Or add a gap in the wall at the end of Kestral.
The bridge isn't the only place where the alignment changes for the Pinkie rebuild.
The road will veer east after the golf course, then back to cross the tracks at the same spot, then veer west a bit before returning to it's original location.
Looking at last year's tender document my guess is that it is to allow for a paved access to several properties along the route which will reduce gravel getting tracked out onto the road.
Also allows for vehicles exiting the properties to stop and close gates without blocking the road.
A few gentle bends in a road isn't the end of the world.
