I wonder if you haven't misinterpreted that post by J.OT13.
I read it as a complaint about the same stretch of road changing names several times along its course. Like Old Montreal Road which becomes St-Joseph, then Montreal Rd., then Rideau, then Wellington, and so on.
I don't believe he was talking about taking Hunt Club Road and re-naming it Jim Durrell Boulevard or something like that.
That being said, it's quite common in big cities of the world for streets to change names multiple times even over short distances. For example in Paris and London most streets change names every couple of blocks, generally at ever major intersection in fact.
A street keeping the same name over a very long distance across the city is a very North American (or maybe "new world") thing. Most of the world does not do this, even if it might be more practical to do so in terms of navigating the city.
