The Murphy mansion is looking great as renovation continues. It will be the entrance to the new Marriott Autograph hotel. The penthouse restaurant is now really visible on top of the converted warehouse that is part of this project. Exciting to see.

Heard a rumor yesterday that a major update is in the works for Capitol Towers. With downtown condos and apartments filled with waiting lists, it makes sense that someone is considering upgrades to this large apartment building.

Significant announcements coming for Centennial Hill. Lighting under the interstate underpasses, news about Patterson Court, and news about the future of the state motor pool facility. All of this is in conjunction with some major money coming from the Feds for this historic area.

Montgomery just announced a dynamic plan for continued growth downtown. The plan includes proposed new buildings, new parks, the additions of roundabouts, new lighting, and changed traffic patterns. The planting of trees down the median on Commerce will be a nice addition. There will be additional spaces for food trucks on Court Square with the area around the fountain being enlarged. Especially exciting is the transformation of the old First Alabama/Regions Bank Building into a residential property. The plan with visuals is in today’s Advertiser. The plan is an immediate one with work already begun on many changes. It should be completed in 5 years.

$600 million Manna Beverage research and distribution center coming to Montgomery. This is another big announcement that will be near the new inland port facility. Also glad to hear about the walking and bike trail plans with the first phase being 30 miles through the city. Finally, plans are to use the former railroad tracks where still available. Good news!

So happy that another $300 million Montgomery announcement was made today for the Hyundai electric battery plant. The new plant will be built near Hyundai and is another connection to the coming inland port. The plant will employ 400.

There is a great Montgomery Advertiser article today with 25 pictures about the new Trilogy Hotel getting ready to open in downtown. The combination of old and new is well done. So glad they are saving the Murphy mansion and the warehouse. The penthouse restaurant has amazing views. It will be another great option for the hundreds of thousands visiting the city every year. Great job.

There is finally amazing progress on the hotel and conference center at the old Hilltop Arms. I could not believe that the building has been stripped of its brick facade and is down to the concrete super structure. Looking forward to seeing what EJI does with this historical building.

Deagio Beverage to build a $415 million production plant as part of a yet to be announced larger project in Montgomery. I suspect this plant is yet another addition to the growing industries that will be near the inland port. This announcement exceeds $1 billion in recently announced investments. In a meeting downtown today, I heard a significant project is under wraps and is expected soon. Good times for MGM

The Montgomery Skyline is not likely to change with any significantly taller buildings in the immediate future. RSA’s 7 story building on a high point in downtown may add some elevation. Hill Top Arms renovation on one of the highest hills in downtown will light up a part of the skyline that has been dark for a long time. The two 6 story hotels right downtown will be nice infill. There may be other infill news coming soon. Downtown is getting more dense at this point. It is amazingly busy!

Does anyone know why Montgomery doesn’t invest in more recreational activities especially downtown with things like a bowling alley, movie theater, or even something like a Top golf?

For the record, a whitewater recreational park is about to open "downtown" later this year in which Montgomery (city and county governments) put up most of the funds to get it built. While those other private venues would make a nice addition to the downtown scene, some businesses like to wait for an incentive package from government before they just automatically set up shop in an area; especially if their in-house numbers don't quite jibe a certain way. As of now the city hasn't offered any incentives to those types of businesses; or at least one that they're willing to jump on.
