Pretty funny how many thought SAT would land this flight (and argued for reasons why on another aviation forum) and alas AUS gets it lol.

Not a bad idea. Copa code shares with United, KLM and Lufthansa

Codeshares

Codeshares are business arrangements where two or more airlines agree to market and publish a particular flight as part of their own schedule or timetable. Only one carrier actually operates the flight, however the other airlines marketing the flight can all add their own unique flight number to the flight for marketing purposes.
KLM and Delta are a good example of a close and successful codeshare arrangement. Both operate flights hubs at Amsterdam (AMS) airport, with Delta operating flights from there to the US, with KLM operating (some) flights to the US but more-so to other destinations Delta does not operate to. So, for example if you wanted to fly from, say Bristol (BRS) to Seattle (SEA), there are no direct flights. You might know KLM flies from Bristol, while Delta flies from Seattle. But neither carrier flies to both. But codeshares allow you to book a single connecting ticket from Bristol to Seattle on both carriers.

New rendering of ABIA's west side expansion which will include "a new lounge, office space, outdoor patio, concessions, and so much more" per a tweet from the airport.

It looks like WestJet is returning on May 18 with non-stop service to Calgary.

That looks like a much larger expansion. Do you know if it includes more gates than the original planned expansion or is it just more terminal space?

Same as original plan - three new gates.

However, when the satellite concourse begins construction (at some point in the near future), it will displace three gates in the main section of the BJT. But, since the connection between the main BJT and the satellite will be underground - once complete, the "lost" gates will come back online. The BJT will have 37 gates when the new satellite concourse is opened. The satellite will have an additional 10 to 20 gates, initially. I believe it will be expandable to over 30 gates.

With non-stops to Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto it's about time we get a non-stop to Montreal.

The WestJet Calgary route is seasonal. Air Canada serves Toronto and Vancouver year-round.

I'd love for Air Canada to start a year-round Montreal route!

I still believe December 2022 will be an increase over December 2021 despite the WN meltdown. The official passenger counts for December still haven't been posted, but I looked at the financial report at the Feb 8 Airport Advisory Council meeting.

https://services.austintexas.gov/edims/document.cfm?id=402112

(Scroll down to page 45.)

It says total passenger traffic increased 7.6% in December 2022 compared to December 2021. (It just doesn't give the total number.)

It also notes Southwest Airlines flight cancellations during the holiday period in December 2022 appears to have influenced AUS enplanements, total passengers and departures for December 2022. Southwest enplaned passengers declined 49k from November 2022.

And then look at Table 1. Table #1 illustrates December 2022’s enplanements totaled 879,932 which is 8.8% higher than December 2021.

Through November, AUS stood at 19,371,88 passengers. Adding the 879,932 Dec enplaned (departing) passengers brings us to 20,251,595 total passengers. We'd only need 748,405 arriving passengers to hit the 21 million mark.

December 2021 had 1,595,821 passengers. If December 2022 total passengers was up 7.6% like the Airport Advisory Council said they were, that would be roughly 1,717,103 total passengers. Adding that number to the 19,371,688 YTD passengers through November would give us approximately 21,088,791 total passengers for 2022.

I wish they'd hurry up and release the official totals on the airport's website.

They have released the numbers today. I seen it on facebook or instagram. I will have to find the post again. It was over 21 million.

1,717,601 in December and 21,089,289 total. You were only off by 498!

Damn, I was so close!

A couple of weeks ago I went back looking for passenger totals for every year since 1999. For 1999 through 2004 I could only find stats rounded to the nearest 10K passengers, but I was able to find exact totals from 2005 through the present.

1999...6.67 million
2000...7.66 million (up 14.8%)
2001...7.20 million (down 6.0%)
2002...6.72 million (down 6.6%)
2003...6.71 million (down 0.2%)
2004...7.24 million (up 7.9%)
2005 - 7,683,545 - (up 6.1%)
2006 - 8,261,310 - (up 7.52%)
2007 - 8,885,391 - (up 7.6%)
2008 - 9,039,075 - (up 1.7%)
2009 - 8,217,926 - (down 9.1%)
2010 - 8,693,708 - (up 5.9%)
2011 - 9,080,875 - (up 4.5%)
2012 - 9,430,314 - (up 3.8%)
2013 - 10,017,958 - (up 6.0%)
2014 - 10,718,854 - (up 7.0%)
2015 - 11,897,959 - (up 11.0%)
2016 - 12,436,849 - (up 4.5%)
2017 - 13,889,305 - (up 11.5%)
2018 - 15,819,912 - (up 13.9%)
2019 - 17,343,729 - (up 9.63%)
2020 - 6,472,579 - (down 62.7%
2021 - 13,570,1 - (up 109.7%)
2022 - 21,089,289 - (up 55.4%)

Amazing to think that since the airport opened in 1999, 2020 was the worst year ever for passenger counts, followed only 2 years later by the all time highest.

Awesome listing. Thanks for compiling that.

What's amazing too...PAX at ABIA is up ~22% over the previous high in 2019!

So basically 2022 was ABIA's best year ever. That's a huge increase, almost 4 times higher than the all time highest in 2000.

So this morning I see that the Aviation Activity Report was posted.

I always look at that one because it breaks out domestic/international passengers whereas the press release does not.

December 2022 saw exactly 80,000 international passengers - up 73.48% from December 2021.

Total international passengers were 908,953 - up 276.33% from 2021.
