I see the difference with the SA photo -- there's a lot of color and detail in the foreground. It's harder with us and that skinny moontower -- it's essentially all panorama.

That said: something about the sun's angle (and maybe your filters?) really give our skyline some heft. It really looks like a certified Big City (tm). It's great work as always.

Wonder how tall the Waterline will look from this angle. Given the lower elevation and further distance, it might be perceived to be as tall as 6x Guadalupe. As far as this angle is concerned.

It's the time of day. Judging by the shadows, this looks like it was shot around 9:00 a.m. (give or take). Redo the shot in the afternoon/early evening when the sun is behind you and it will shine on the buildings as well as the moon tower.

Then as a bonus, you could Photoshop the moon tower lights being "on" to give it that postcard. feel.

When I went to UT, Dobie and Castillion were the only highrises around the campus. I can't even see the Castillion in that photo.

(Or is it off to the left?)

Yeah, it's on the far left next to the Dobie Center.

Great work on all these photos. The storm one is amazing @myBrain, and the perspective/angle on your photo @Riverranchdrone is a unique one you don't get to see much. Nice colors too.

Great view. In a few years the skyline will be enormous. Waterline, and the other towers in Rainey in particular will really beef up the skyline. And once the South Shore pops off?!?

Only from certain angles. From others it looks like a weird patchwork, thanks to CVCs.

6XG is easily 100+ feet taller than it would be without the CVCs because the area cut off by the CVC was added to the top. The CVCs also create many buildings with non-box shapes because they can't take up their entire blocks. So the skyline is taller and more unusually shaped as a result. Those buildings will also always have views out their windows, even on the lower floors, because there will never be another building butted up next to them. Lots of net positives as far as I'm concerned.

Our skyline is very spread out. From the north you have the skyline stretching a mile and starts from lowrise and goes to highrise. Looks very open. From the east or west the skyline looks very dense because it goes a mile deep but only half that wide. From the south it fools you because you have all the highrises up front and wrap around you.

The amount of projects lined up will compensate the most flat or thinning sections of the skyline. We haven't even seen the major skylines start rising yet. Give it time. Considering how small our skyline still is, it looks deceivingly large. The Perennial Towers and the other projects surrounding it haven't yet been approved, or broken ground. There is still so much left to go. To put it in perspective the total of all projects still yet to be approved, or begin construction, would almost literally double our entire skyline in height and density.

This photo is 6-8 years old, and Boston has dozens of sizeable new buildings built after this photo was taken, but it shows the layout well. Boston's skyline is Y-shaped with taller and shorter sections throughout. Instead of CVCs impacting the locations of tall buildings, we have the ocean, parks and the airport just out of frame to the right (which, because of flight paths, necessitates that only a small area can have buildings up to 1,000 feet. The majority of the downtown skyline has a height limit of 700 feet.

Here's another from from 2013 taken from sort of the opposite angle. (Sorry it's so large.)
