As for your subsequent post about SQ, I share the same opinion. I don’t think SQ would have started such a codeshare if they wanted to pull the service later this year. This being said, it might also be the other way around. This might be a last ditch effort to make the route work. Either way, it seems SQ might stay the course for a little while longer.

Looks like from March 26- October 27 2023 for Spring/ Summer 2023 season British Airways Airbus A350-1000 plane ✈️ will be operating the London Heathrow LHR- Vancouver YVR flight route.

Yep no BA A380 in S23 for YVR ,unless connecting in San Francisco SFO,which has the BA Airbus A380-800 service.

If extra capacity is needed, what is the likelihood of BA brining back its second daily flight YVR.

They are serving almost double daily, as they've split the 7x LHR A380 into 7x weekly LHR A35K, and 6x weekly LGW 772.

So capacity is largely maintained, just split across two airports.

Daily 35K (2,317 seats) + 6 weekly 772 (2,016 seats) > Daily 388 (3,283 seats)

Total seats on YVR-London in S23 is massively down compared to S22. YVR-LHR in particular, as both AC and BA have cut service there.

YVR-LGW down as well, but only slightly.

Which is a good thing, because even these increases probably won't be enough to cancel out the AC and WS decreases to London.

According to my back of the napkin calculations....

AC+WS is 516 less seats to London/day.

BA increase averages out to only 150 more seats/day.

AF and KL were already daily last year I believe, so the equipment increases are marginal. (KL is 28 more seats/day on the days the 787-10 will operate instead of the B772. Don't know the AF increase, but if it's similar, that's 60/seats between the two)

WK is 1 extra frequency/week. That's an increase of only 45 seats/day.

DE is up gauging in seats on the days the A339 is operating only, as their A332s have similar seating to their B763. So again, very marginal increase.

All those increases together doesn't come close to 516 seats/day.

So basically, seats on YVR-Europe in S23 will most likely be lower than in S22. With all the YYC increases to Europe, it's getting close to a level where YYC might soon have more seats to Europe in summer than YVR.

Good thing Asia and more specifically China is opening up, because YVR will need to look there for international non-US growth this year.

Initially planned to be daily, but cut back to 5x before the season started.

KLM and AF definitely increasing capacity. On top of AF increasing to daily KL upgauging the AMS flight to the much larger 77W on 5 of the 7 weekly flights

I just realised Porter started services 2 days ago and nobody mentioned it here?
Haha. I guess domestic stuff isn’t the front seat at YVR with all the long-haul international goings on.
It was also the first E95 to YVR in a long time!

SICHUAN AIRLINES INCREASES VANCOUVER SERVICE IN LATE-FEB 2023

Sichuan Airlines in late-February 2023 is restoring additional frequencies on Chengdu Shuangliu – Vancouver route, currently scheduled once weekly. From 24FEB23, passenger service on this route will be increased to 3 weekly, on board Airbus A350-900XWB aircraft.

Following schedule is effective 12MAR23 – 25MAR23, while service on/after 26MAR23 continues to list 1 weekly flight for the moment.

3U3859 CTU2220 – 1900YVR 359 2

Porter will start service on Tuesday, so still have 2 days to go.

But not sure if anyone would be interested in it though... it's just the 7th carrier to fly to YYZ...

But then the 6th (Jetlines) barely operated any flight, so maybe it doesn't count. A total of 6 flights were operated, and now all flights are cancelled until May.

Their first flight arrived on Friday morning PD 9901 departed back to YYZ on Friday PD 9902.
Maybe a PR flight - in any event certainly not front page news for sure
