From today's inaugural Porter Airlines E195-E2 service between Ottawa and Toronto Pearson. A few observations / opinions:
  • The E195 is an enjoyable ride and fairly quiet in flight, even adjacent to the engines.
  • The Wi-Fi was easy to join and fast enough to browse online, text / send photos, etc. This is a major plus.
  • A full beverage and snack service was completed, including alcohol, coffee, soft drinks, etc. The cabin crew were efficient and polite.
I'm looking forward to trying out their full product on longer flights to western Canada.

I have a friend who is a backbench MP from the GTA. The number of one-off meetings that he has back in his riding is huge (like many per month). And when he has the odd day free and wants to go back to see his family which is still in Toronto, I certainly wouldn't support telling him that he either can't go at all or needs to spend 10 hours on the train.

We have enough trouble attracting good people to politics - I don't begrudge them air travel for short trips for a second.

Porter has made regulatory filings for E2 transborder ops in which they cite the destinations of LAX, LAS, SFO, MCO, and FLL.

No surprise these will be the first transborder jet destinations. Hopefully PD will have some YOW-Florida nonstops for winter 23-24. Anything further afield wouldn't show up until at least spring 2024.

Sure from YYZ I guess. Meanwhile I can already fly from the bulk of those from YYZ for under $100 with Swoop or Flair. Cheapest fares from Ottawa are often those 2 tickets combined deals or transfer to the Island on your own.

There’s no mention of route pairs. However, YYZ is the obvious starting place. Once the fleet builds up some more we’ll see what comes our way.

How full was the inaugural flight? Any pre-departure celebration or activities at the gate?

It looked to be in the 80%-90% range I'd estimate. For Ottawa's inaugural departure, there was a Porter-branded rolling kiosk for coffee, tea, and snacks.

Air France is launching flights between Ottawa and Paris-Charles de Gaulle, with 5 weekly non-stop flights on the 224-seat Airbus A330-200 as of June 27. Flights are to operate on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Flights arrive at 3:05 PM and depart at 5:05 PM.

This is definitely an exciting development with respect to Ottawa's trans-Atlantic air service offerings!

No mention of seasonality in the release. Probably a wait and see on the uptake.

Watch AC react now. D*cks.

Quick. Someone get PD and AF in a room.

My first thought given that WestJet has all but abandoned the east and this screams opportunity for Porter

Can those new Porter jets do YOW-Heathrow? That's easy money IMO.

Finalllllllllllllllllllllllllllly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It doesn't say it's seasonal in the press release, and looking at random dates in December it's still showing as 5x weekly.

Will it be some kind of code share or will we see actual AF livery at YOW? It'd be nice to see some new planes!

Service will be operated by Air France on their A330, so we'll see a new airline for sure!
