This is the rendering of a new two tower development proposal in the Harris Green neighborhood in downtown Victoria. Located at 1045 Yates the towers will be 20 & 21 storey buildings with ground floor commercial space. I posted a couple of photos of the current empty lot that use to be the Dodge dealership which moved out to Langford. It's the first phase of a 2 phase development.

This is the rendering of the two phase development. The second phase would house Victoria's tallest building at 32 stories.

That is so incredibly awesome! What a huge development. Cool skytrain goes right through the middle of it. I'm not familiar with this project but there must be a large commercial element to this development.

Can't wait to see how King Toronto turns out - could/should be spectacular. Sorry if I missed the discussion, but I presume there has been talk about the similarities and differences to Habitat 67?

And just watched Giallo's video on a 4k tv as God intended - fantastic quality and editing. How they turn these transit developments into a more walkable urban environment.. maybe it just takes time. I know Metrotown is far ahead of where it used to be even 20 years ago.

Ths month I added the Toronto suburbs (Mississauga and Vaughan so far are the only cities to be building skyscrapers, but Oakville, Brampton, Richmond Hill, Markham, Pickering and Ajax all have tall proposals) to the diagram, now 50 towers 150 metres+:

When is Concord Sky going to start? I kind of hop it stays a hole until a redesign years down the road after Concord sells it to a good developer.

Good question. I'm not sure about what's planned at the base of these towers.

Brentwood does feel very incomplete atm. The area around The Amazing Brentwood (the new mall) feels cohesive, but everything else in the area is surrounded by open pits, strip malls and low rise offices. It's going to take awhile before everything comes together.

Maybe it's obvious from these updates but this transit development is going to change the whole area, extending out to places like Gilmore, Brentwood, or Lougheed that currently don't connect very well to "urban" parts of the city. The Broadway extension will also improve connectivity to the Canada Line. It is one of those projects that has an impact far beyond the % of track or stations or whatever that are added to the system.

And this is badly needed because the metro area has grown a lot but there isn't an easy way to add a lot of capacity on the downtown peninsula. But one roadblock is that some areas that are logical places for high density infill (Commercial Dr, Renfrew, eventually parts of Kitsilano or farther west) are still off the table due to zoning. Land prices in these parts of town are so high that medium density development cannot be affordable without subsidies.

I agree. It's definitely much needed, and will be the first that connects the westside to the eastside with a single track. It's about time.

Some Halifax updates from Developments HFX

Growing skyline in the Almon/Robie area. I remember when there was only the squat circa 1980 office building in the middle.

Small reno project. It looks like they're attaching some modern details to the upper floors. Mostly I like this site because it's a tower surrounding a narrow 5 storey building (was Victorian and then got a Deco do-over in the 20th century).

This tower will be 27 or so, it's getting a 20 storey or so neighbour, and a large hospital complex is going in across Robie. Then there is a development site in behind. Likely to be big changes here in the coming years.
