Maybe it's obvious from these updates but this transit development is going to change the whole area, extending out to places like Gilmore, Brentwood, or Lougheed that currently don't connect very well to "urban" parts of the city. The Broadway extension will also improve connectivity to the Canada Line. It is one of those projects that has an impact far beyond the % of track or stations or whatever that are added to the system.
And this is badly needed because the metro area has grown a lot but there isn't an easy way to add a lot of capacity on the downtown peninsula. But one roadblock is that some areas that are logical places for high density infill (Commercial Dr, Renfrew, eventually parts of Kitsilano or farther west) are still off the table due to zoning. Land prices in these parts of town are so high that medium density development cannot be affordable without subsidies.
