I was thinking they should have built the new Humane Society facility in the old stadium area to better serve people in the area that want a pet but don't have a car.

I was thinking the same thing. This sort of development throughout the core/heritage/downtown is what is needed. I wonder if this development falls under the new $50,000 incentive program.

I just figure put services where people are, in a non-sprawly fashion. Various commercial buildings could be built along the CP mainline as a noise buffer. In the Lewvan locked island nation of Harbour Landing the HS and other businesses are a buffer between the airport and residential.

The rebar and concrete forms were up for the north side Pinkie Bridge girder footing today, but I didn't have my camera with me. I was a bit surprised they jumped right into that work already, I figured the piles would sit there until spring.

It’s petty sad when this is one only proposal for downtown in the last ten years , and it hasn’t even been approved yet , there’s something that’s not right someone is keeping developments out of the down town

They had the rebar cage covered over this morning since no one was on site. Will likely be tented and heated before the concrete pour. Should start hammering piles through the ice next week since the south side piles are nearly done.

Top 5 things holding back downtown development in last 10 years in no particular order:

1. Weak economy - seems to hit downtown harder due to relatively higher dependence on hotels and office).
2. Parking.
3. Vagrancy and crime, or at least the perception of it.
4. Taxes - may not reflect the relative current value of downtown properties.
5. Pandemic - remote work, shoppers, diners and travelers staying home.

If the City doesn't approve this regardless of NIMBY's...its a lost cause then!

There is something rotting in the state of city hall there is no way in Hell that no proposals where not made for the downtown some one is obviously paying someone to keep development out of the core ,cities with ten thousand people get more building done , for ten years no proposals I think not , when a proposal comes in to the city who sees it first , they are the ones

What do you think would have been proposed? There is no market for office, bricks and mortar retail is dead plus you had Harvard's Shoppes on Hamilton and the giant Sears store added to inventory. Also H&M got built. There is no market for downtown condos. Hotels have been suffering low occupancy for years. What is left? Rental apartments? I do not think there is much demand for these downtown either.
