Very interesting collection of 100 old post cards highlighting historic Moncton landmarks.

Video Link

the first 10 or so photos are of the riverfront and tidal bore, but keep watching. It gets more interesting as it goes along.

Very nice images Moncton Rad. How many of those buildings still exist? I have passed through and by Moncton many times but I never got the chance to explore the city.

A few Shots here, first is the Maple Leafs Baseball Stadium at Hanlan's Point on Toronto Island where Babe Ruth had his first major legue home run. It was in use from 1897-and was closed in 1937.

Next is the follow up home for the Toronto Maple Leafs baseball club which was built in 1926 and demolished in 1967.

And some random pics of some ladies playing baseball back in the 1920's downtown somewhere.

Also way back this was the very first location of a permanent baseball park in the city of Toronto. At Queen East and River.

Sadly a lot of these buildings no longer exist. In particular, the old ICR passenger station and the ICR general offices (HQ) were torn down over 60 years ago and replaced with a suburban style VIA station and a fairly generic set of two modern office buildings of seven and eight storeys. This is very sad.

Modern historical preservationism didn't really set hold in the city until about 30 years ago. Thankfully a reasonable number of the remaining historical buildings in the city have been saved as a result.

Via the former St. John's College's Newfoundland Studies collection in Waterford, Ireland. A painting of St. John's (ours, not theirs) in 1845:

I'm surprised the Basilica is that complete in that year. It was started many years before, but I always assumed steeples would be in the last years of its construction, and 1845 is not the last years lol

It's by an English/Irish landscape painter, William Pardoe Clarke.

They may have taken some poetic license and added them in?

I see two eras for Saint John's skyline: BTR and ATR (before the Rooms, after the Rooms).

I love paintings of North America from that time. They literally Paint North America as a magical place no doubt to entice European's to want to move and settle here.

Also I just noticed this bad ass lady is a catcher with no gloves let alone a mask.
