it's getting pretty big now, you can see it from highway 1 west bound for a bit.

That Coquitlam project looks great. But man, with so much going on in the area, Lougheed Hwy needs to be upgraded to free-flowing 6+6 highway connector between Barnet Hwy intersection and Highway 1 to support all the traffic. The current roadway is at capacity during rush hour.

Definitely. Could get kind of tight between Riverview and the railway though, and you know the province is gonna come up with some janky design.

right now traffic is a nightmare. Almost all the side routes are being affected. Government is closed down till sometime next year because of the pipeline project and the other Lougheed alternative to the north is also affected by the pipeline, with reduced lanes and sometimes closures at random.

The winston alternative has been closed off for what seems like years, if it ever ever reopens you can only go far using it anyway cause of the closure of Government. Lougheed itself is slow with lane closures in the Brentwood area and Gilmore has lane closures and some kind of work going on.

I tried south of hwy 1 using side roads around 16th and such in east Burnaby and it was closed off for months and I haven't tried lately cause it was closed still a few weeks ago.

Gaglardi has had some lane closures for months due to the pipeline and Como Lake has had lane closures for months due to some upgrades, its only recently mostly reopened to allow two lanes to get through east bound.

Its a nightmare trying to get from Vancouver to Coquitlam, as the only real options are the Barnet, the Lougheed and Hwy 1. Lougheed is just a crawl from Lake city way eastbound.

Have you tried Hastings? It has a rush hour that starts at 3:30PM.

Isn't 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM typical rush hour?

Vancouver changed rush hour on Hastings from 3:30PM to 3:00PM. Burnaby did not. There is a strong lobby from Hasting Business Association against any changes to changing parking regulations.

On Burrard St. I Noticed this past fall that rush hour car horns sounding off at illegal left turn violators started at 3pm to 7pm instead of 3:30pm to 6:30pm (they added an hour of rush hour time)
and in the mourning it now start at 7am to 10am (a half hour later).

I see, misunderstood that you were talking about parking permitted times and not when rush hour starts. Would make sense to keep arterials free of street parking in general or at least from 7 am to 7 pm every day.

Burrard was changed to match the new bus lane hours of 7am-10am and 3pm-7pm (both directions)

there was a sign today on Lougheed that Broadway between Underhill and one lane, I think eastbound, will be closed until Spring 2023. Ugh. It was one of the workaround alternatives.

A new Ismaili cultural centre is part of a residential project being proposed for Port Moody

The Jamatkhana would be a replacement for a previous one further west on St. Johns Street that had to close.

A rendering of a new 12-storey rental tower and Ismaili cultural centre being proposed by Anthem Properties for the northwest corner of St. Johns and Moray streets in Port Moody.ANTHEM PROPERTIES

The Ismaili Muslim community in the Tri-Cities could be getting a new cultural gathering place in Port Moody.

A 45,818-sq. ft. Jamatkhana is part of a redevelopment proposal by Vancouver-based Anthem Properties for the northwestern corner of St. Johns and Moray streets.

Attached to the two-storey Ismaili cultural centre will be a 12-storey residential tower with 128 rental units — 64 of them below-market.

The tower will sit atop a six-storey parking garage, four of which have to be built above ground because of the site’s steep slope.

Currently, the property is occupied by a two-storey commercial building that includes offices spaces and a restaurant, as well as a multi-unit light industrial building with several auto service and repair shops.

In its proposal Anthem’s tower will comprise:

21 studio apartments
64 with one bedroom
33 two-bedroom units
10 three-bedroom apartments

...

I've decided I'll just post links to images from now on because I don't like compressing or downsizing my pictures but I don't want to imbed them at full size either.

3100 Ozada Avenue, Coquitlam. Feels pretty huge in person for just 6 floors.

2992 Glen Drive, Coquitlam. They've finished excavation, looks like construction's just about starting.

3620, 3640, 3646 and 3650 Westwood Street and 3639 and 3643 Woodland Drive, Port Coquitlam. Any idea what exactly they're doing here? I can't imagine they're starting any kind of construction without excavating first considering it's a highrise project. Can someone with more knowledge on the process of construction fill me in here?

Chilliwack Mall "Demalling"

VIDEO: Final walls of Chilliwack Mall crumble to the ground
Clearview Demolition shared a short drone video of the demolition on Sept. 28

CHILLIWACK PROGRESS STAFF Oct. 1, 2022 5:00 a.m

The Chilliwack Mall is no more.

Clearview Demolition finished the process of taking down the last walls including the sign over the entrance on Wednesday (Sept. 28).

The company shared a short dramatic drone video of that sign being taken down with The Chilliwack Progress.

The Chilliwack Mall burst onto the Chilliwack retail scene four decades ago, opening on Nov. 4, 1981.

Ontario-based SmartCentres Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) purchased the Chilliwack Mall in 2017, announcing plans to “demall” the shopping centre at Luckakuck Way and Vedder Road.

The demalling retail trend has seen a shift in the style of shopping malls from enclosed indoor malls with large anchor tenants popular in the 1960s, to the more modern clusters of standalone or multiple tenant buildings, surrounded by ample parking.

Perhaps this is a little beyond the burbs, but I know how much interest there is when it comes to shopping malls here.

I guess the regional boundary between mediocre and horrific urbanism is somewhere between Aldergrove (where the mall replacement plans are much more civilized) and Chilliwack
