It's been a lot of snow (40cm at the airport so far with more to come) but thankfully it's been spread out over a long period of time, with some breaks in between, so the city has been able to keep on top of snow clearing. Should be no issues.

The snow is also incredibly heavy and wet, so drifting isn't much of a problem. During snowmageddon it was cold and the snow was light, so it was drifting like crazy. The snow is so heavy that it's weighing down a lot of tree branches; my privacy bush which is about 7 feet tall is basically flat to the ground right now. Same with some pretty large cedar branches.

Wow! That's a lot of snow when it's heavy and wet. Tough to move and lots of it. Take it easy with the shovel!

Glad to hear that they've been able to keep up on the clearing - that should help hugely to keep things open at least. Hopefully there won't be too many power lines taken out by broken and drooping branches, heavy with snow...

Hey that's the first time I've heard of hoarfrost. Had to google it and yes it's quite something to see. Thanks!

Cloudy and -1 at 12pm. Snowfall total of 49cm at the airport, with higher amounts recorded inland and at higher elevations. 49 seems a bit high for what I shoveled this morning, probably got around 40 in my neighbourhood.

Rain and warm temperatures return this week. Not sure how much will melt, but the snow pile the plow left on the front lawn is likely there to stay.

It is currently 0.8 degrees and snowing. The snow might actually cover the lawn for the first time this winter (even the Christmas blizzard didn't fully cover the grass). Low was -0.8 degrees this morning.

Sadly it never reached St. John's. Further down the shore in places like Fermeuse they had some brief thundersnow. A rare treat for them, I hope they enjoyed it

Yesterday was grey again. Went to Hendrie Valley trail at Royal Botanical Gardens. You could tell when you walked downhill into the valley that it got a little bit warmer. Also stopped by LaSalle Marina. Both places are Burlington/Hamilton.

Last Monday was the last time we saw the sun. Still not seeing the sun but today after grocery shopping we stopped by the Oakville greenhouse. Just a little place that's free to stop in year round. I've ever only seen one other person in there. For 5 minutes, I pretended to be somewhere warmer.

Never knew these giant lemons existed.

^ Oops. Those weren't showing up when I posted. I'd love to hit up a greenhouse like that right now, the warmth and greenery would feel so rejuvenating.

Took a little trip to the Ranney Gorge in Campbellford. Conditions pretty much par for the course for this winter in Southern Ontario, overcast and a little over freezing

There is a suspension bridge

From said suspension bridge

That greenhouse reminds me of one in Kingsville called Colasanti's where they have lots of activities like an arcade, mini-golf and a small zoo, and you can eat broasted chicken under orange trees. The main business is tropical plants. It's been around forever, I remember going there when I was a kid in the 80s.

Sounds like a good place for a family outing. One day I'd like to actually go west past Port Burwell on Erie. If my family is with me then I'm definitely doing that.

For this local one I stop by, it's a really small space that's open to the public. The greenhouse proper is attached at the back and is where they grow or care for certain plants in the municipal gardens around town. They usually have turtles and koi to see but only had two fish and no turtles this time for some reason.

The closest thing to that Colisanti's is perhaps the Royal Botanical Gardens indoor facility, which has some family related activities and exhibits.

Well, went from the tropics to winter wonderland. This is the nice kind of snow. Calm out and above zero. Snow falling gracefully and not sticking to the road. Very pretty and very comfortable walking conditions to take in the beauty of it all. And no need to shovel.

Conditions at Blue Mountain a couple of days. On one run at least. Which I'm guessing was not actually open but this guy went anyway. With the shot of snow today, hopefully it helps.

Last week a coworker said his local hill in Kitchener, which is Chicopee, hadn't opened yet. Well it just opened a few days ago. But he had a family outing booked for Tremblant next month anyway.

I also read that all four resorts/hills in NS are finally open as of yesterday. I assume not at full strength of course. How white or green or brown are the slopes looking there?

As an angler, I've always wondered if some of my fellow hobbyists have or would retire to Florida just so they could fish year round. Salt and fresh water. I wonder how many avid skiers retire to AB or BC due to the longer ski seasons. Or for any hobby that is dependent on climate and geography.

Thx. I feel like yellow is making a comeback. It really went out of favour for so long but more and more people are wearing it. Just talked about this with my sister last weekend, who got a dark yellow winter coat recently. I talked about this a couple of years ago where I was lamenting walking around downtown and seeing everyone going to work wearing black or grey coats. We need more colour in the winter!

Here's some funny pics from Sean Mackey from a hotel in New Lisk, NE Ontario. This year's gimmick and last year's.

Oh man that is tough for the ski season in the East. Below is a photo I took yesterday at the top of Big white, close to the summit at 7600’. Base below me in the photo is 188cm, or just over 6’. Skiing has been spectacular since mid November.

Interesting your note about anglers retiring year round in Florida. Myself, I have a summer hobby (Golf) and winter (Skiing) so ultimately for me a place I can split time in the year is awesome. Ideally I’d love to be able to golf all year though…maybe somewhere near the Sierras in California is in my future.
