AC have also upped the lowest YOW-YUL Y fare to the very reasonable $535 one-way lol.
They probably think they’re doing us a favour with this increase to YYZ what more could we want!

Pretty much with such nonsensical fares they’re telling the world that they don’t want any O&D traffic on the route…and with a monopoly on the route, that isn’t hard to do. Back in the 80s when the fare was like $25, the O&D traffic was close to 100k pax per year. Even a $99 one-way price would generate a little bit of O&D…but that would take having a competitor.

If you fly O&D on YOW-YUL you kinda deserve it.
The downside though is that it doesn't put any pressure on VIA at this rate.

Crazy! I am flying YOW-YUL-Europe in early June and my RT economy fare divided by 2 is less than $535. I was actually going to fly via YYZ but the connection time was shorter in YUL.

I wonder what the O&D is on YOW-YUL... Can't be more than 1-3% of total traffic. And I feel like 3% is generous.

Nowadays it's probably 0.2% and I'd hazard a guess half of that is non-rev pax.

What’re the odds Porter adds a direct flight to Chicago for this summer?

I’ve been planning a trip there and the only direct flights are United and AC and right now they’re pushing $800+. By contrast, a Porter direct flight to Boston is $350.

Not very likely I’m afraid. I think the purpose of the new Dash-8 routes would be setting YOW up for future connections on the E2’s. MDW would be too much of a backtrack for them if want to go Westbound. It’s also unlikely there will be direct from YOW to MDW on the E2’s by this summer since it seems they are first operating them from YYZ then the next step would probably be adding domestic destinations from YOW. I can’t see MDW being a thing this year but I hope I’m wrong. I too want a direct to Chicago but UA’s prices are too much. I ended up just using Porter last summer and connecting in YTZ.

Today’s cancellation count (so far): 2 - both AC to YTZ - AC's YTZ service has an enormous number of cancellations

I was looking for long weekends in April and many days were $1000+ !! Even the connecting flights close to $600.

I’m guessing they don’t want O&D on this route? I can see them pulling this out of YOW one day and blame it on “no demand”

On that exact note, I just noticed Swoop has now pulled out of YOW. I was expecting this to happen. Instead of adding destinations YOW is missing, they wanted to compete with 3 or 4 other airlines for routes already served by them. I bet now they're thinking YOW isn't profitable and won't try again with other destinations. Oh well, — to —. More room for Porter and Flair.

Everyone's an expert and I know the airlines have all the data and expertise but their track record is so horrible. Aiming for the front of the plane and other business travelers makes sense on paper but the most of the most profitable airlines in the world focus on putting bumbs in seats with point to point less served routes.

It does say French is preferred. My guess is French is preferred for the YOW base and not as important for YYZ.

It was before COVID, but my sister and a colleague of her’s were at a conference in downtown Montreal (from Vancouver) and had to then go to another here in Ottawa. My sister took the train but her colleague flew. My sister was checking into a hotel here in Ottawa before her colleague had even boarded the plane in YUL. Not sure if the colleague just wanted the Aeroplan points or if she was oblivious to her travel options.
