Since I personally don’t own a car and including my bus pass I’m saving roughly $8,500 a year just based on 1 less purchase. That’s a lot of money that can either go to rent or used as disposable income.
There's very much an anti-transit attitude here as well. To some extent I get it. Big catch22 -- transit isn't busy enough so the city won't spend on it, but if the city spent to improve it, more people would use it. The city could lead here and doesn't.

Pats games are definitely on the pricy side. For a family of four, it's $149 for silver seats, all in with taxes and fees. You can pay a few bucks more if you want to sit right at centre ice. That's a lot for junior hockey IMO.

When I see Pats games on WHL Live the building seldom looks more than half full and I would think price plays into that.
I would encourage you to look at teams in BC and AB and the US for that matter. The ticket pricing in Saskatoon is not the norm. Vancouver Giants are full pop. Kelowna Rockets are 18 bucks + fees and taxes for tickets.

A quick search around and the Pats are by no means the most expensive, they are by no means the cheapest either. Some teams have kid prices others do not. Pats Premium Season Tickets are easily a couple hundred dollars cheaper than Kelowna, Vancouver, Calgary and others.

It all depends on the operating agreements with the Arenas and less about TicketMaster or Select your Tickets (all that matters there is the fees) the face rate of the ticket is equally important and is indicative of the operating costs of the team at an Arena.

I'm just curious...having obviously been following the dialogue on the homeless side of the equation and opinions on the budget and funding for homelessness.

Now I'll caveat this with I do believe the Regina Police Service should see a decrease in their budget. They are approximately 171 cops per 100,000 which is high, especially when you compare it against towns policed by the RCMP with smaller or equally if not worse and more dangerous issues facing them.

How do you propose the City spends money on Bike Lanes and Invest in Transit when it can't even house the homeless which is something yourself and others were advocating should be part of the City Budget?

I see a lot of Spend Spend Spend Spend Spend on this forum. Not a lot of where is this spending going to come from? And as I already said, the RPS budget should come down not keep going up. So likely a few million can be found there. Mass Transit Investments do not come solely from cities, they come in a large part from the Feds, whether it be the LRTs in AB, Torontos GO Line, Vancouver with the Skytrain and Canada Line. The OPERATING dollars come locally, the Infrastructure Dollars come federally.

Personally I'd rather see money spent urban to support true urban renewal which would create a body heat downtown. If you choose to live in the burbs thats your choice and the rest of the City shouldn't have to pay the burden.

There is a limited amount of cash here and it needs to be expended in a manner that brings return to the residents...buses to Greens or Harbour Landing don't make a lot of sense when there is acres of parking lots that can be developed in the urban centre for apartments.

Should have said among the most expensive tickets in the WHL, but my point stands. I know lots of families who will go to MJ to watch the Pats instead as even with the commute, it’s cheaper.

I believe the city should've had the discussion about homeless people. I never said they 100% should be funding it. Have they discussed re-assigning some of the Sask Housing properties with the province to change the criteria? Have they done anything? I think something has to change and the city needs to talk about it. A lot of people don't want to do downtown esp at night because they don't want to be accosted by homeless people. The police budget keeps going up and some of that is dealing with social problems.

The feds did have about $120M for transit funding, but our council is going to see if they can spend that on the Lawson replacement instead. I'd spend on transit over bike lanes if it's a choice. And I think throwing transit out for a swimming pool is the wrong approach.

Our city loves to promote more sprawl and more pavement when we really need policy that actively promotes infill, not the lip service it has been. Downtown parking lots don't pay enough property tax, but in a city built for cars, not people, that is what you get.

Those buses to Harbour Landing and the Greens you think are so useless, those do take residents from Harbour Landing and the Greens to the downtown.

And just so I know, where is this cutoff line where you become a burden to the city because it's the burbs? Do you need to live inside the Lewvan/Ring Road Border? Do people on Rochdale count or are those suburbs and a drain on the city?

Personally…120 million in transit infrastructure isn’t going to get you a heck of a lot if you can’t get the operational dollars to support expansion which is my understanding of the scenario. I think that 120 million would be far better spent on healthy living in Lawson. But that’s just me.

The burbs? Well to me the sprawl challenge is very specific to Harbour Landing, Greens, Towns, Eastbrook, The Creeks. You having housing and commercial that canibalizes existing commercial. You have zero health care facilities minimal doctors and medical services that then force new immigrants and others that have settled into HL or Greens to take a bus. Meanwhile a lot is more expensive in the burbs vs buying
Almost anywhere urban whether it be NC, Heritage, Lakeview, Hillsdale etc etc etc.

The city has given into the power of the lobby that comes from specific entities for sprawl because of land holdings. Whereas restricting the sprawl forces urban development. Reduces the need for buses out to the burbs and allows transit to be better distributed within what the city is that then in turn historically and in many other NOrth American Cities increases bus ridership.

So are you basically saying that no infrasture funds, federal or otherwise should be spent on transit and that only increased revenue from ridership will improve our system? If that's the case, we all know that we'll be waiting a long time for any meaningful change. I don't think it's helpful either to demonize those that choose the suburbs either as in Regina there currently isn't many options closer to the city centre for many housing types. Save for the Creeks, I'd argue that there are just as many folks in the suburbs who opt for semi-detatched, townhouse, condo or apartment homes as there are single family. I agree 100% that the city should limit futher sprawl and focus on infill but in the meantime, should we abandon the idea of moiving people efficiently throughout the city we have via public transit? I am one of those advocating for improved cycling options but also would 100% put those dollars into transit if it was one or the other. We shouldn't be choosing between public pools and buses and bike lanes when million if not billions gets spent on stadiums and bypasses. And of course, our current housing crisis trumps all of this. But as others have said, the city can't do any of this alone.

Do we know the status of the Harvard Developments Tower 4 off of the plaza and the demolition or keeping of the heritage facade?

Also…

Before

After

I can't imagine with an office vacancy rate at 18+% that we won't be seeing that tower kick off anytime soon unless some new big corporate client were to come in and sign a big head lease

Last I heard Harvard hasn't been able to convince the owners to sell the corner lot (2198 12th Ave/ NE corner). That's standing in the way of a tower regardless of the Burns-Hanley facade preservation project.

If they were going to actually build a new library, I think that would be a great location on 12th. Have it open onto Pat's Patio. Put a proper theatre it in. Make a multi-story building facing the park. That would be amazing and the old library could stay functional during construction, but I doubt Harvard would be willing to surrender that footprint for such use.

Recall Harvard's proposal to redevelop the current central library site. That included a new central library. There is no reason this could not be done at the current site of even at 12 and Cornwall. I would be surprised if Harvard did not have an option on the NE corner property.

Tender is out for a food & beverage vendor for the Wascana Pool site. Competition number on Sask Tenders is COR6189. 3 year term with option to extend for 2 more.

I really hope it's not a Tim Hortons. The garbage will be the ruin of the park because people are stupid.

Absolutely agree. That would be a great spot with Regina’s new ALT Hotel attached.

That would be a crime to open a Tim's in the park! A satellite of Milky Way, Dessart, Dandy's or something similar would be best but they will be closed for a good chunk of the year of course.

The first pile for the Pinkie Road bridge was about to be driven this afternoon. The pile driver machine has enough reach they can keep it on the shore. The thickened ice is just for workers to stand on.
