Disappointing that the Journal et al. didn't mention United Grocers on 95/102 Ave, within the Downtown & DBA boundary and serving the community for decades.

It was always a great option and had decent live seafood options.

Easy to miss it considering the LRT construction was ongoing for years, but hopefully once the LRT starts operating and construction detritus around there is cleaned up, people will start to notice it more.

This goes back WAY before LRT construction.

It always irked me when folks said there were no options... mind you, United didn't promote themselves very well either, but they were there, within the boundary and rarely given mention

Those drawings look ahead of their time but they don't show the massive parking lot those folks used to park their car.

Over the past two weeks I've been to Blanco, DeDutch and then out to the game last night. They've all been great experiences.

But I also have heard that an extended family member in her 80s who's been going downtown all her life was assaulted for the first time.

There's pockets of excellence surrounded by wasteland and the wasteland feels like it doubled in size over the pandemic with the core blight being that damn mall. I feel like until that is addressed is almost hopeless. It's like the rot right in the middle of everything.

100% the answer is more people living in the core, less giant retail complexes and definetly no more office space. Why the COE doesn't have a very very aggressive strategy for that, is troubling.

I know where the could find 75 million over the next 5 years...

Unfortunately as City Centre is privately owned it would be up to LaSalle to decide to blow it all up (or a portion of it), the City wouldn't be able to swoop in there and do it themselves unless they expropriated it somehow. Even then, it would cost millions.

If I were LaSalle, I'd see the writing on the wall for CC West and blow it up, replacing it with two or three rental towers with some commercial at grade.

I agree. I think they will be proposing some significant changes as much of that space is based on a dated model that just doesn't work all that well in today's environment.

I wonder how they would retain the Delta as it is considering it sits atop the entire building? There isn't an easy way to retain it in-situ while demolishing and redeveloping the rest of the building.

Retaining portions of buildings can be done, but yes, it might not make economic or constructive sense.

I would be curious who actually owns the hotel component of the development, and whether it is an airspace parcel, leasehold arrangement or freehold. Those elements could further complicate a needed demolition of the whole complex.

I don't think ECC west will be demolished. However it desperately needs to be renovated so that it can be brought back from the dead. It is no longer required to be the concrete bunker it's been all this time.
