Generally speaking, no. Most affordable projects are privately built by non-profits even though they are partially funded through government grants, tax credits, land write-downs, etc. They're not public projects in the same sense as a school or a library.

Meyer Memorial Trust put out a report on this issue that contains some industry wide data and some links to other resources.

Construction of 132 new apartment units at 1010 SE Ash St. Seems like the neighboring Troy Laundry building is undergoing renovations, too.

Much appreciated. It's hard to image the scale sometimes when you see a building on paper, but the Modera certainly is massive when you see the actual building!

That's a good looking building, also it is insane that it would take that long to make it through review. This is one thing that Portland really needs to create a better fast track for, especially when it involves affordable housing.

The project was on hold for a long time, but now has a new owner/developer, who repositioned it as affordable housing. The revisions were resubmitted to the city towards the end of July, so the permit review period hasn't been nearly as long as it might seem.

Buckman apartment project receives new life

Quote:
For nearly six years, plans for a large-scale multifamily development in the heart of Portland’s Central Eastside remained dormant. But thanks to an emergency land use measure taken during the COVID-19 pandemic and the entrance of a new developer, ground is set to be broken on the project this fall.

Pine Street Lofts, previously SE 8th Ave Apartments, will be a seven-story building with 144 market-rate apartments (including five live/work units) and retail space at 830 S.E. Pine St. The site is across Sandy Boulevard from where the 12-story Sandy Pine mass-timber development will be built

The base of the town crane for https://www.udplp.com/550-se-mlk is in place. Still behind the fence, so maybe I've missed it before. But it appears the building should be rising soon.
