The building looks great!

Das BBQ? I've never had German BBQ before.

I think this is a great compromise for the site. It's a very small site, and there are pretty stringent height restrictions along this section Piedmont. A few years back when a developer wanted to build condos here it just wasn't feasible.
A restaurant right across from the park entrance should do well, and this appears to be a completely pedestrian-focused design. DAS BBQ is pretty good, they started in Underwood Hills (West Midtown) and have a newish location on Memorial.
Also, at least according to signage, looks like they're aiming to keep Skate Escape in the renovated adjacent building.

Per Atlanta Eats, Skate Escape will be a part of the redevelopment along with PMA coffee shop.

Fantastic! Piedmont Ave adjacent to the park is the ideal location for establishing the patio vibe that may have been lost in other parts of Midtown.

From the DRC review:
"A special exception via the City’s Board of Zoning Adjustment is needed for the off-site parking arrangement. The secured parking must be within 400 feet with a minimum of 35 spaces."

It is absolutely INSANE to me that any parking is required at this location. Atlanta is so disappointing sometimes.

8 AM to 2 PM for a coffee shop there? Surrounded by thousands of residential units and Atlanta's most popular park? Hopefully that's artistic license and not actual hours for the coffee shop.

It's required in that part of Midtown because there are no transit stations nearby.

That's no excuse. It's walking distance for literally tens of thousands of residents. Very accessible by bike and scooter. It's 1/2 mile from Midtown MARTA station. Two blocks from bus routes 27 and 40. Lots of existing street parking on 11th, 12th, and 13th. We need to get out of this car-first mindset.

It says just a few posts above yours that Skate Escape will be a part of the redevelopment.

FYI - The owner you are referring to retired and sold out to new ownership several years ago.

Tower Square lands Five Iron Golf

'the nation's leading indoor golf, entertainment experience’

https://atlanta.urbanize.city/post/midtown-golf-bar-announced-tower-square-entertainment
Quote:
For its Midtown location, Five Iron Golf expects to build 13 golf simulators with high-speed cameras designed to capture each angle of a golfer’s swing. Elsewhere will be a more typical bar setting: widescreen TVs, a full-service restaurant, and “leisure games.” League play, golf clinics, private lessons, and other events are also planned, per company reps.

Five Iron Golf Atlanta is scheduled to open across 16,000 square feet sometime in mid-2023.

Planning permit filed to convert the ground floor of the Piedmont Center at 3565 Piedmont in Buckhead.

"The project scope consists of the conversion of 31,667 square feet of existing ground-level office space to a combination of retail and food and beverage uses. The conversion will activate the ground-level spaces and provide needed retail and food and beverage uses for the existing office tenants and the general public."

5Church Owner to Open New Restaurant in Midtown

Quote:
The restaurant, for which a name has not yet been revealed, will open at 33 Peachtree Place at the corner of West Peachtree Street in Midtown. The new restaurant will feature a "Latin fusion" menu and will occupy the 5,200 square foot corner space formerly home to Babalu Tapas & Tacos.

Big progress on the new Pasta da Pulcinella space at 1100 W.Peachtree. I walked by yesterday and the exterior appears basically finished. The sidewalk is SO much better here now. It used to be that tiny little bottleneck that was not ADA-accessible.
