Regina Police Headquarters
Wascana Pool/Water Park
Urgent care centre on Albert and 7th
New Argyle/St. Pius X mixed-use school (that thing is HUGE)
Cargill canola crusher plant

2023:

No, and to be clear these are two separate projects.

Coop hasn't even finalized the land sale from the City yet.

When finished, the restoration of the Globe Theatre and historic Prince Edward Building will surely inject some activity into the downtown core (and Scarth St. Mall). These photos were recently posted to the Globe Theatre thread and are worth re-posting here. They illustrate the massive scope of this heritage project.

Brandt Centre is a great building but it only has 6,400 seats and, when you have a concert, you can only fit just over 5,000 folks in there,” continued Jackle, who believes a new arena needs to be in the 10,000-12,000 range. “Some of those tier 1 shows simply won’t come to our building because it is so small. It would be beneficial if we could nail down a new arena in the foreseeable future.”

But the city itself has done practically nothing.

I asked the city when they were going to start replacing the LPS lights. The response indicated they are in no hurry whatsoever. They will look at it as part of their 2050 energy plan. There was also indication they want government grants before they start doing it. Had they started replacing them back when SaskPower started the street lights they would have already reached the 2-3 year payback period already. Clearly the mayor hasn't been looking too hard for efficiencies if the decision / replacement is still 2-3 years away.

Wascana Centre has replaced their lights. They are distinctly more white/blue.

If you want to see a city's priorities, look at the budget. The day to day running of the city is falling behind bright and shiny new builds.

The fact pretty much every private business has long since upgraded theirs shows there is a business case for doing it. This is the exact kind of thing a carbon tax is supposed to be encouraging, wasting electricity will only get more expensive every year.

Pinkie Road bridge construction should start early in the new year. If I see them drilling piles through the ice I'll take a picture.

I still had the tender doc saved, looks like driven steel piles, one pier in the water. Which ought to be good for a Reddit, "Does anyone hear that banging noise?" thread. The wider columns in the picture are test bore results, not piles.

This is what happens when the city manager unquestioningly takes their orders directly from the mayor. Politics trumps logic and fairness.

I'm really close to a guy that wears a hardhat and a yellow vest who mops the floor in the Mayors office and he told me that the Mayors parakeet, instructed the City Managers Cat to tell the City Manager that she should communicate through a Medium to determine what line items should and shouldn't be included in the budget and the Medium instructed the City Manager to wave the magic budget wand and solve all the cities problems by riding the City kept Unicorn to Medicine Hat to learn how they managed to solve homelessness by blinking their eyes and tapping the red shoes on the yellow brick road...

PS seen Bylaw more than a few times over the last few days, but thanks for the orange vest and hard hat analogy to how the city operates

It does concern me that somehow the city has managed to pass a $3M deficit budget in spite of the Cities Act prohibiting deficit budgets. This will have to happen quickly. I assume it's the province who has to respond to the deficit and there isn't much love between the our city council and the premier. If they can so casually trim $3M in expenses, that should've been done before the budget was submitted to council. I expect this will have to happen quickly this year.

Laws requiring balanced government budgets are incredibly regressive and unnecessary, so I for one hope it's just ignored (even if the city spends on dumb things).

I'm just merely passing on a story of a concerned City Hall employee, who is not simply a third party (considering I am not hiding my name, unlike most people on here, not revealing our relationship isn't doing much to protect them, but I will withhold that information either way). Did Santa leave you coal in your stocking? And this has nothing to do with "orange vest and hard hats". Bylaw is not analogous to a construction crew. You also completely ignored the part about the fleet of brand new vehicles I mentioned. Try to explain how that goes along with the mayor's request to find $3M in efficiencies this year.
I'm keenly aware you are related to someone in Bylaw. Its interesting how any opinion that does not agree with yours is incoherent, wrong, or otherwise. I feel quite sorry for you and those around you, that you choose to go through life with what I can only assume is quite the ego that you have this belief that only your opinion, beliefs, or rants are the correct ones.

I have yet to see you offer a solution to any of your rants and ramblings, other than taking pots shots at those who put themselves in positions of trying to work through change on a daily basis. BUT that is exactly how a Narcissist approaches life

It is absolutely mindboggling to me how so many people think the City has the Budget, the Legislative Power and ability to wave a magic wand and approve and/or inflict significant costs and taxation burdens on the generalized public.

They take the word of one side of the argument, vs the other side of the argument or just google what some report from Southern California or another jurisdiction states on costs or feasibility of this or that.

Its really too bad that unlike other communities that are on this forum world wide productive and respectful dialogue discussing solutions and opinions in a mature and adult manner aren't possible here. Its very much Its my way and no other way can possibly work, or no other solution is feasible. Not a discussion on root cause, just completely politically biased based on one narrative or another. Thats not how a City builds itself, thats not how a community grows, and that is certainly not how consensus and solutions are actually delivered.

I mean you have mods on this site that are actively pro-convoy/QAnon...so that tells you all you need to know about what the discourse is going to be like.

Lol. The Regina construction threads are chock full of bizarre out of place political rants that definitely aren't from the right and yet you somehow think think this place is something sort of Qanon haven?

Fuck man, all this bullshit should be on reddit anyway and this place should be left to be about construction.
