AIR CANADA NS23 VANCOUVER – CANCUN AIRCRAFT CHANGES

Air Canada during Northern summer 2023 season once again schedules Boeing 787 service on Vancouver – Cancun route, reflected in recent schedule update. The 787-9 will continue to operate this route on/after 01MAY23, scheduled once weekly, replacing 737 MAX 8.

#1 tracked flight on FR24 right now is SQ47 YVR-SIN.
In fact the top 7 flights in the world are YVR flights.
Wonder why? What a mess! I’ll be arriving into this mess in a couple of days (one extreme to the other)
At least a white Christmas looks to be on the cards.

The top 7 are all within the YVR property, either waiting for a gate, or waiting for de-icing.

I guess the gate is still an issue today. The CX flight waited 7 hours for gate before they took the SQ spot. KE, NH, 4Y flights earlier waited maybe about 4-5 hours. BR/BA/QF/B6/MF/AI/FJ all left a plane at D pier from last night, so gate is still short today... most of them should be departing shortly though. PR, TK, 3U, BR, CI now in the queue.

I see the AM flight for MEX departed from E93 today. I guess they bussed everyone over? Looks like YVR still want to put every plane to a bridge...

#1 on FR24 only has 700 ppl Tracking it. The rest are even lower.

Yesterday, Argentina’s flight carrying Messi and the rest from Rome to Buenos Aires was #1 as well, but it was being tracked by over 183,000 people.

Clearly much less ppl on FR24 today.

They probably don’t have a choice with the snowy conditions and have to use contact gates?

SQ 47 finally took off from 08R. Should arrive here (I’m in SIN now) around 4:15am so only around 11 hours late.

Those Flair, WS, AC planes parked on the tarmac probably ended up using the stairs as well. Wonder why they didn't use that covered ramp on the left side?

As far as aircrew are concerned, visibility is not a limiting factor in deciding to de-ice or not. Outside air temp and type of precipitation are the limiting factors. Maybe one of these two was the reason why planes weren’t de-icing.

Thats where the crews get stuck, less of a problem out east where the temps are lower, but in YVR and the coast it is frequently an issue in snow storms. Heavy = no hold over time.

Is that an airport bus or a translink bus.

YVR does have those large high capacity buses for the remote stands. It clearly does not look to be one of those.

Nah, just you. YYZ was just few months ago world's worst airport for delays and YUL really struggles to attract foreign tail. LHR et al. all struggle with a little snow every winter. Same old, just like your echo chamber commenting.

The cancellations/delays aren't a problem at YVR for me (if anything I think that limiting international arrivals is a very prudent idea to prevent what happened yesterday) but it's the fact multiple planes full of people were stuck for up to 14 hours overnight. I feel for the people working at YVR and understand their predicament and how hard it must have been, but something like that should have never happened in the first place and there's zero excuse for that. Just goes to show you how fast things can go south.

I'm sure YVR has learnt from its mistakes though.

Wonder if that will cause the airlines to delay their Thursday departure and/or send 2 planes on Friday, causing more congestion then. An then the next storm is forecasted to arrive on Thursday night...

I'm sure they learned, just like last time (2008) and the time before (1996). The problem is snow storm like this happened once every 12-15 years. Whoever learned may no longer working at YVR when the next storm comes...

That's the airport bus for remote stand. And that ramp thing on the left is what was planned to be used for remote stand.

Woke up to a message flight has been “retimed” 24 hours.
That’s a nice way to say delayed or cancelled.
Oh well! I could think of worse places to be stuck.

YVR’s notice.

Therefore, we will be temporarily limiting arriving international flights for approximately 48 hours, effective Wednesday, December 21 at 7:00 a.m. through Friday, December 23 at 5:00 a.m.

We anticipate that approximately 30 arriving international flights with 17 airlines will be affected, including All Nippon Airways, Air China, Air France, Air India, Air New Zealand, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, China Airlines, Eurowings, Eva Air, Hainan, Japan Airlines, Korean Air, Philippine Airlines, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Turkish Airlines.

Vancouver YVR has a chance of snow again this upcoming Friday December 23, as the weather is calling a chance of "snow" again.
