That misaligned panel in the upper left corner of the east-facing "gill" really bothers me. I hope they re-install it.

SUPERTALLS in TORONTO: in a few years the city could home to 4 or more under construction supertalls.

Steveve’s compilation of under construction and proposed supertalls for Toronto which includes requests for additional height for The One and Pinnacle’s SkyTower (both of which are u/c as supertalls at lower approved supertall heights).

Two more projects are just shy of 300 metres @ 299 metres including Sugar Wharf Phase 2 already in the site prep and demolition phase.

Note that the shorter of Frank Gehry’s “FORMA” towers (seen greyed out in the diagram) sold quickly and has already begun site prep and demolition. This bodes well for FORMA’s supertall to move into construction as well in the near future.

Pinnacle One Yonge’s Phase 3 @ 305 metres is also very likely to get built given the success of Phase 1 and Sky Tower (Phase 2). There’s also an on-going debate about whether Concord Sky (officially u/c @ 299 metres) belongs on
the supertall under construction list since one its elevations cracks the 300 metre mark.

*There’s other supertall proposals (not pictured) deemed unlikely to move forward (no rezoning approval) such as 1200 Bay (324 metres).

I find it quite interesting that Toronto spent so long just shy of supertall status, only to break the barrier and surge to near the top of the list in NA so quickly.

Austin, of all places, which had a pathetic skyline just 20 years ago, now has one supertall under construction and another proposed, with rumors of several others in the works. It's almost like there is some magical tipping point in land value that turns the switch on.

Yeah poor FCP just a couple of metres shy of supertall never really got its due (tallest bank building in the world when built ;-).

While not a huge fan of the rather odd design for Austin's supertall (prefer the second one 'The Wilson' that's in the pipeline)... I think Austin is already the best looking city in Texas (architecture, nabes and setting)... and soon one of the best skylines in the usa.

I know stuff has been/is being built in the premier 2 cities in Texas, but when I see skyline shots of downtown Houston and Dallas today (and those remaining seas of parking lots/freeways)... they look basically unchanged from decades ago. Almost like archived shots.

An insider confirmed yesterday that these cladding corners are just test panels… and even better news, the ‘champagne’ colour originally previewed has changed to be closer to a gold tone for the final cladding yet to be installed.
Love that news.

I originally thought future residents of 88 Queen right next door would lose their west views but the tower here is sited far enough north of Queen to prevent that... although there's an even taller proposal for the corner of Queen and Church (seen on the right below) that would indeed wipe out 88 Queen's west views ;-).

SkyTower podium work is on the right. The large (white) blank wall of the Phase 1 podium is where the Phase 3 tower and podium @ 306 metres-92 storeys (located in the foreground) will connect to the development.

The large brick warehouse in the centre of the photo is the site of Sugar Wharf Phase 2’s on-going demolition and heritage rentention work, which will eventually see 3 towers rise from the retained facades, the tallest tower @ 299 metres.

55 Yonge | 236.21m | 66s | H&R REIT | PARTISANS l Approved

Fabulous but astonishing news on this beauty. A settlement offer has been reached. The astonishing part: no height cut and no noticeable impact on the architecture.

Maybe everyone at City Planning had their Happy Holidays drunk-up party much earlier than last year ‘cause this never happens in this city.

These database renders still look identical to the settlement docs.

UT

Special Note: the design has already been honoured with an International Architecture Award which was included in the city documents as “the Settlement Offer” has won… lol (see below).

Just got back from our Christmas trip to Toronto. I didn't manage to see very many development sites due to the cold snap at the beginning of the week, but it was nice to be back in the city again.
