Good to see JetBlue on Boston, just hope it doesn't compromise AC, I'd rather see them strong on the route. The JetBlue JFK service must be performing to or past expectations, it's kept a solid schedule. I didn't realize they had an alliance with AA. I think AA used to codeshare on the Cathay service to JFK, so this JetBlue service is really providing the same function. And in this day and age, those 5th freedom routes are dying out, so the JetBlue service is way more stable. CX was already providing non stops from JFK and EWR I believe, so the YVR tack on was very expendable, this isn't 2002
I miss Cathay on the YVR-JFK route. How many flights do they even have coming into YVR anymore?

I thought what kept that tag on route going was the cargo.

Maybe, as it lasted for quite some time after CX began flying HKG-JFK non stop in 2004.

Still, it was losing money for a number of years before it was cut. That's directly from the mouth of a senior VP at the airline.

Passenger airlines rarely keep a passenger route solely for cargo. At the end of the day, the route needs to make some sense above deck as well.

Deluce and Porter better hope they don't have to pay that $130 million award to the operators of YTZ. You can only burn through so much cash...

6x/weekly from HKG.

I expect flights to ramp back up now that HKG has lifted their onerous COVID measures for arriving passengers. But CX has said it doesn't see a return to pre-pandemic capacity until end 2024.

I live in south surrey. BLI is 18 minutes away with nexus. SEA is exactly 2 hours away. YVR can be upto an hour and a half away depending on tunnel traffic and counterflow. Add in TSA precheck and flying out of America is vastly easier then Trudeau's crapshow.

They have no Canadian destinations at all but have a respectable number in the Caribbean, and a point-to-point saturation of the US domestic market.*1 fn
I'd love to see them try, say, YVR > San Antonio, Tucson, Albuquerque, Kansas City, and others ... though I'm sure that in fact, the numbers aren't there to warrant it, and Southwest isn't interested, anyway.

fn 1. But look at their destination roster! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Southwest_Airlines_destinations#International_service
Southwest will never come to YVR. They're using BLI as their link to the Lower Mainland. There website even says Bellingham (50 miles from Vancouver) when booking. Flights there seem to be doing alright ( 2 daily to OAK, 1 to LAS). Last available data was for August with loads to OAK at 91.8% of 8723 seats available, and LAS was 94.6% with 5425 seats available. Starting a saturday only DEN service in April so if that shows success maybe it goes daily.

1. For you it might be. For the vast majority of people living in the greater Vancouver area who don't want to go to California, Vegas or Arizona on a LCC, it isn't.

2. If you have Nexus, then you're a trusted traveller under CATSA as well, and you qualify to use the trusted traveller lanes at security checkpoints in Canada. It's the same thing as TSA precheck. So your point is moot.

3. What does Trudeau have to do with anything? Would flying in Canada somehow be better with Poilievre in power? Was it better under Harper? Politics has nothing to do with your experience at a Canadian airport. Yes, it might be tougher on your wallet because of all the taxes here, but again, that's not Trudeau's fault. The system was in place long before he came, and will still be here long after he's gone.

And you're exxagerating a tad with your 18 minutes.....

There, I agree with you 100%. I'll even go one step further. They'll never serve any Canadian airport, period !

They avoid a bunch of US government taxes the US has on international flights coming into the US.

What would make Bellingham an acceptable airport would be a good rail connection from Vancouver. It is very close to the current line between Vancouver and Seattle.

There are lots of private parking lots around the Bellingham Airportwhere you can leave your car for a week while away. Just make sure they are staffed when you arrive back.

I think SEA is a bit more than 2 hours away when accounting for traffic which is always bad on I-5.

Yes, all suspended routes that hadn't already restarted are removed in both S22 and W22 schedule.

I expect it's the same for other bases too.

Would any other airlines step in to fill that gap that AC left? Or is it wiped off the possible YVR destination roster altogether (with the others that were dropped)?

During rush hour yes. My trips out of SeaTac have been on weekend or stats. Timed it on the GPS. Going approx 75-80 mph get there right at the 2 hour mark. I also take the 405 at the split to avoid any issues with the I-5 going through downtown. Very easy route as the 405 turns into the road that goes right to the airport. There are only two traffic lights the whole way and those are in blaine. Advantage of living next to the truck crossing.
