That just makes me sad, at the Arbutus Station site you can look off in the distance and see UBC. It's right there.

Great footage, especially since it shows the overall scope of the work.
Media releases like that go a long ways in keeping people informed.

Just avoid driving on Central Broadway for the next thirty-six months, that's what we're doing.

I find, expect for when it was down to two lanes at Cambie. traffic has been fine outside of peak rush-hour. Maybe it's just most people are being smart and avoiding Broadway.

That is the inverse of induced demand: make driving less convenient and people will adjust their behaviour.

I guess the real question is if congestion has been worse on other east-west thoroughfares.

Seemed like people were using those other E/W routes when Broadway was really backed up recently. I personally avoid it outside of rush hour because it's so tight/potholes.

Absolutely they are. I've been working in the area for years, and regular traffic was busy pre-construction (even during COVID).

I avoid anything with major construction if possible. Some of the rivets and whatever else sticking up from the big metal plates don't look friendly to tires.

8th Ave is pretty chaotic. And 12th Ave is busier than before I feel like.

Or there aren't many options to maintain maximum traffic flow over active construction sites?

If Broadway isn't altered to add bike lanes as some advocates want, and instead Broadway has the same number of lanes but a few hundred busses per day are removed from the street, I would say that will be pretty car-forward.

On street parking should not return to Broadway after the construction is done.

I drove my mom to an event in South Granville last night and parking for the night was $21, starting to feel a bit like driving is for the rich (and that's not the city's fault, that's the market rate for parking!)

That is true.

And not building roads and inducing demand and all that is fine. Not that there is enough room to add any.

However, I feel the problems are exacerbated by City Engineering (and in turn mayor/council) generally refusing to make simple changes to make the road network we have more efficient for cars and buses for the roads we do have.

They're making a change right now to make West Broadway more efficient for transportation.

i would bet you a 95% chance there will NOT be the same number of lanes. probably only 2 lanes each way, total of 4 lanes on Broadway

Wasn't West Broadway always 2 car lanes each direction? (The outer lane is always either a bus lane or parking lane)
