They have spray painted part of the south facade white, are promising to clean up the rest of the outer brick walls. As far as I can see, no material changes on the outside - just cleaned up.
I am talking about the pediments above the windows. They look extremely fake.

Also I realize the confusion here - my response was in reference to this photo

I mean there's a reason it looks like it was crafted out of styrofoam... It's because it was lmao

That would explain it. My confusion. But if that building is lined with styrofoam, at least it will float.

The convenience store at Main and Locke is closing. The one with a big crunch chocolate bar logo. Seems like a prime lot for development. Anyone know what's happening there?

I think the adjoining properties would have to be part of any redevelopment to make it viable (the barber shop on Locke, and house at 365 Main). But it's ripe for something.

Same with the RBC property across the street.

I've noticed a large amount of soil testing going on at this site on Wellington just south of Burlington St over the last few weeks.

https://www.google.com/maps/@43.2684189,-79.8525812,183a,35y,285.47h/data=!3m1!1e3

Any bets what is happening?

It would be nice if something industrial/commercial uses that land. It's probably pretty contaminated. And not far from the site of the infamous Plastimet fire of 1997; I was thinking it happened on this land, but that was where Jackie Washington Park is now a couple hundred metres southwest.

Thank you for sharing that. I wasn't even born yet when this accident happened, and hadn't heard of it until you shared this article. That must've been a massive cleanup and wake up call in general.

Some work is being done in the basement of the old Federal Building at Caroline and George and Main. Anyone know what's going on? They're digging into the concrete floor to do something.

Sewer issue? It's a lot different to be draining condo units than office space.

Very exciting driving down the 403 from Ancaster and seeing 4 high tower construction cranes, gives a very busy / lively vibe

This is the commercial space in the basement/first floor. Surely the condominium sewer doesn't merge with commercial under the entirety of the commercial unit. Imagine if there were a restaurant or something leasing this space, it would be a complete overhaul of the restaurant.

Should we be surprised that space looks so mid-construction? Probably not.

Given Darko's penchant for value-engineering, I wouldn't doubt the issue. And this was one of his first big builds here, wasn't it?

The lot at 73 Hughson St N has apparently sold for $6 million to Core Development Group, a developer which does decent work in Toronto. Will be interesting to watch for an application there next year.

And another downtown parking lot gone, hallelujah!

I forget, given all the activity of the past couple years, but is there anything proposed for that massive lot across the street bounded by Hughson-Wilson-John-Rebecca? That's one of the biggest in the downtown core.

nothing yet. It's surrounded on 3 sides by development applications now though.

November permit data is out. rolling 12-month permit value continues to be above $2 billion, but is now slightly lower than 2021.

$293 million in total permit value issued this month, a very large number.

Notable permits include:
  • $23 million - 554 Golf Links Rd, Retirement Home
  • $3.9 million - 363 Progreston Rd, new single family dwelling
  • $3.1 million - 230 Concession 6 E, New single family dwelling
  • $2 million - 50 Violet Drive, apartment alteration
  • $5.1 million - 825 North Service Road, new stores
  • $3 million - 591 Albertson Rd, Single Family addition
  • $5 million - 15 Ambitious Court, warehouses
  • $2.5 million - 150 Main St W, tenant improvements (Finally a tenant for the retail spaces at 150 Main!)
  • $1.8 million - 880 Hwy 5, Offices addition
  • $2.2 million - 1240 Osprey Dr, Plant for manufacturing
  • $27 million - 270 Longwood Rd S, plant for manufacturing (appears to be another permit for the McMaster Innovation Park!)
  • $2 million - 165 James St S, Foundation for Apartment
  • $4 million - 165 Longwood Rd S, Office alterations
  • $1.2 million, 106 Bay St N, Apartment foundation
  • $100 million (!!!) - 191 King St W, Colleges, Residential (primary permit for McMaster Graduate Res)
  • $1.4 million, 225 Nebo Rd, cold storage plant fire retrofit
  • $1.1 million - 1430 6th Concession, Labratories Industrial
  • $9 million - 25 High St, Secondary School alteration
  • $3.5 million - 131 Wellington St N, Apartments new construction
  • $3 million - 253 King William St, Multiple dwelling foundation
  • $2 million - 700 Woodward Avenue, chemical manufacturing or processing plant
  • $1 million - 455 Arvin Avenue, Plant for manufacturing

Another couple of $3+ million SFHs, always interesting to see those.

131 Wellington has permits now, though still no site activity as of this morning when I went by. Looking forward to that one starting.

Surprised to see 165 James only getting it's foundation permit now, as it's currently topped out..

Does Core Development Group have anything that's been completed? On their website they only have projects proposed or selling.
