They did foundation work a couple years ago. But not having to deal with all that, and reusing the existing structure seems like a good idea. Not having to deal with a lot of things, just demo.

Here's another one... looks like the lobby used to be off York, before they made you walk through a surface lot/backlane to enter.

That classic type of 50's/60's brick and concrete building are a flawed design and it's probably best they lost the balconies and re-clad the exterior.

The floor slabs cantilever out for the balconies creating a huge cold strike along the interior perimeter of the floors - that eventually rots out any wood stud framing on the interior due to condensation.

This effects a lot of condo corps around the city... so beware if you ever consider buying a condo in a building like this that hasn't already dealt with the issue.

And BTW...Rib Room was best (maybe the only) restaurant to get goldeye!

My friends, family & out of town visitors loved accompanying me to dine there.
The service was top notch, refined elegant surroundings, delicious food & fair prices.
It is a shame that the tradition of eating @ the Rib Room is lost & the new hotel will not offer any Dining option.
Hilton is also considering as many of us know, a Hilton Garden 18 floor hotel on the adjacent parking lot facing Donald Street if post covid & market conditions improve.

The foundation is already in, so that will limit changes to building heights.

They are likely capped at 13-floors on the one half of the site regardless.

yeah, it was initially, condo, but maybe they will switch to rental...partial long term stay is an option too, as you say.

oh yeah, i wouldn't expect it to get larger....i just wouldn't be surprised if they capped off the second tower at the podium level and called it a "phase two"

Just getting the podium in would be a win IMO. That would really solidify the street wall along Carlton. And as we've seen from 300 Main, phase twos can eventually happen, even if we have to wait decades for them to materialize

But yes, I'd prefer for the two towers to get built as originally planned.
