18-7-1.

At this point, it's the franchise's best record after 26 games. All this without Trouba, Copp, Byfuglien, Laine, Enstrom, Little, and Chiarot.

I'm starting to wonder what would have happened in the 2018, 2019 playoffs if we had fired Maurice. Would we have won a Stanley Cup?

I believe jets best all time team was the 75-76 WHA avco cup championship team had 52 wins and 106 points.

The 2017-18 Winnipeg Jets team was the best team ever put on the ice in this city. The list of reasons that this team was far superior to the Jets WHA teams of the 70s would be endless.

Jets with 3 straight wins against Canadian teams fielding an AHL lineup was very nice too see. Ehlers, Perfetti, Schmidt, and Wheeler all coming back on Friday for a big matchup against Tampa.

So now we’re in 2023 and Jets are second in the division only 3pts back of Dallas with a game in hand and 4th in the conference. This definitely seems like the time to go all-in.

I saw Arizona is willing to deal Chychrun for 2 first rounders. If I was Chevy I would bite the bullet and even add Heinola to secure the deal.

What are some other names the Jets should look for at the deadline?

I don't know that defence is really where we need help. Maybe someone to play bottom pairing. I mean any improvement we can make is good to be fair. I think a bit more help up front would be a good thing.

The Jets have cap room to add a major piece at the deadline, if they can work something up. Rental or potentially a long term asset with expiring contracts in the near future.

Chychrun AAV is $4.6 mil, which is reasonable. Actual salary though is higher. So Jets may not want to take that on. I'd agree from a rental perspective, that a good top 6 F would be the add. Wheeler can drop down to shore up the 3rd line, which further shores up the 4th line.

That trade was such a win for the Jets. Laine has been injury prone for the past few years. He also is streaky, and can go long periods of time without scoring.

PLD has really been a key factor in the Jets good fortunes.

^Couldn't agree more having 2 first line centres is such an advantage for any team.

Another great win for the Jets today against the Nucks with a Connor hatty and 4 point night for Dubois.

Speaking of the Nucks there’s a certain 29 goal scorer on their team that is available for trade. Idk but I think Horvat would be an exceptional fit for this team and propel us into true cup contenders. Give up whatever it takes for him at this point I’m sold on the team.

Scheif-Dubois-Horvat-Lowry would give the Jets the best centre depth in the league.

Thats a tough one with Horvat. Would be deadly for sure. UFA at the end of season and the price is pretty high. Worth it for a cup, yes.

I remember back in the summer some fans were lamenting the fact that Sam Gagner was the team's only "major" free-agent signing, there were no big-name defensemen signed, and Bowness was hired instead of Trotz. It was going to be a wasted year. I'm pretty sure I was one of them.

Now the Jets are looking like a team that can have a deep playoff run, if not a legitimate shot at a Stanley Cup. The team has money to enter the free-agent market if they wish, attendance appears to be up from the start of the season, and Chevy is a genius.

How could someone with zero hockey experience outside of remembering who Carol Vadnais was have been so wrong?

Happy, however, to eat some crow. I hope their amazing season continues!

I also remember Orland Kurtenbach, btw.

Makes you wonder what the hell Chipman was thinking keeping loser Maurice around for so long!

^ It's pretty crazy, if you go back and reread the posts in this thread from July and August, the big question was whether the Jets under Bowness were going to be bad enough to be a legit draft lottery team, or just merely bad. And I'm including myself here, my hopes for the Jets' season were very low last summer.

Fast forward six months and now the question is whether the Jets are shaping up to be among the top Cup favourites, or merely a solid contender

Going back on Bowness my thinking was he would very much be an "interim" head coach, as in here for a season or two and responsible for cleaning up the roster. Once that was looked after and Trotz could address whatever took him away from hockey that Trotz would be announced as his replacement.

As well as Bowness has done so far I am not convinced that the agreement between the Jets and him still does not have him walking away after a season or two. You don't come in as a new head coach and accept a two season contract unless you are prepared to walk away.

^ Bowness is getting up there in years, but if the team is rolling and everything is hunky-dory, it will be awfully tough for him to step away and retire. He looks like he's having fun and no doubt getting paid very handsomely to do it...

I still believe in the Bowness placeholder theory for Trotts (due to Bones's age). It will be that much more attractive now that the Jets are winning.

I have to say, and admit that I really liked Maurice and truly thought that the issue with the Jets the last couple of years was in the room - Schief and Wheeler. I guess I was wrong. With essentially no changes to the roster Bones has made us contenders again. Florida with Maurice is in a world of trouble and looks exactly like the Jets did last year. Coincidence?

Maybe Maurice's expiry date is past due?

Would Trotz do any better than Bowness? I realize he won't be around for another decade, but maybe four years instead of just a couple?

Is Trotz just going to sit around and wait for Bowness to retire, for that matter? It does look like the heir apparent is already behind the Jets bench...

Keep Bowness for 4 years and groom a younger coach in the meantime. This room responds to Bowness system perfectly don't break something that works.

Hey, don't get me wrong. I would love it if Bowness signed longer term. I just feel like he was ready to retire this year and True North convinced him into a 2 year deal. I'm not so sure he wants to do more than 2 years, but you never know.

Winning changes everything. A guy who has been around the game as long as Bones has gets a team to buy in to the level the Jets have bought in that’s hard to give up.

At this point they’d probably run through brick walls for him.

revealed on the weekend that Wheeler played the 3rd period with a "split testicle" before he had surgery, that hurts just to type it. Hockey players a different breed
