The difference is those are city post and ring racks placed at angles that don’t impede the sidewalk. The Claridge ones (I assume) are private racks places on city property in the middle of the already narrow sidewalk. Beyond ridiculous.

With one of the 3 screws falling between blocks. Those screws won't provide much strength, but they, likely, allowed the installer to get the frames nicely lined up - in the wrong place.

So, you can simply lift up the two blocks with the bike? Nice.....

And they are at the edge of the sidewalk, not the middle.

I was thinking more of the strength of the rack's mounting to resist the snow plow (or other forces).

Since the other securing screws are not in the center of the other two blocks, those blocks would not lift out easily. I'm much less worried about bike theft happening in that manner.

The stand fan is the 'icing on the cake' as far as that scene goes!

My mind has this explanation for it, it is facing the building to blow the revolving door around to get ventilation into the lobby.

Sidewalks have an alignment, just like roads. In the Elgin case, (mostly) the sidewalk is aligned to the building face, with unimpeded traffic in a straight line against the building, and all the miscellaneous street furniture clutter in the boulevard between the sidewalk and road. Of course, the City issued permits for patios that directly impede the sidewalk alignment, but I digress on that one....

In the Icon case, the sidewalk is aligned on the road, and anybody walking a straight line will bash their shins, especially the hard of seeing.

By a snowplow or deliberately?

It's near-unanimous on this board that these bike racks need to be moved or simply removed. Question: Why can a private developer install these on public property in the first place? And if they are on public property, who owns them? Is it now the city's problem to move them? (Just wondering.)

I didn't see any pictures, but it kind of looks that way, yet the space between the bike racks were not plowed? Hoping someone posts a pic at some point.

How many retail spaces are on the ground floor? Any updates or news on what might open then (and where)? Building has been occupied for a while now, weird nothing has opened yet (to my knowledge).

I guess the weed stores have stopped opening branches in every new condo or rental tower that goes up.

This one and Moon we're still waiting for confirmation. If the CIBC rumour doesn't pan out, I'll start thinking Claridge has a problem in their leasing department.

About time. Market has been saturated for years, yet they kept opening. We always here how the private sector knows best and we should leave it to the free market, but that doesn't always pan out.

Looks to me like it's packing it just like how a free market (a merger with safety regs) should (for the most part). businesses open, compete and some close till a equilibrium is found.

The housing market could use some of this freer market instead of nimbys picking and choosing what can or more specifically can not be built near them. Might actually get dense housing intsead of fights over 9 story buildings in a cities core.

Can't wait to visit the newest Shoppers and LCBO combo. That's really what will end up here, isn't it?

I mean, one can dream that a proper grocery store open up here but as it stands, it seems little Italy is still destined to be a food desert.
