The big difference is that Anderson finally was able to get the changes at the end of his second term (the final month prior to entering his final year in office). Becker didn't do squat to move forward with 400 South until the middle-end of the first year ... of his SECOND TERM.

So, yes, I will credit Rocky for advocating and pushing for the redevelopment of 400 South.

And yes, you can't convince me that monster mall would have been a net-positive for the city as a whole. Just admit it: your hate toward Rocky is irrational. Now I hope he wins just to see you whine.
Don’t know anything about the previous mayors or past things they did. Rocky or Becker. Gotta say though do we really just want an ancient 70+ year old running things. Let’s get some 60 year or younger blood in there.

"Even [Rocky's] more recently approved TC-75 for the corridor has not seen any reinvestment in the neighborhood."

Rocky's zoning was a failure and poorly thought out, which is why the city council refused to approve it for so long.

Also, you did NOT link to the 2005 proposal. You linked to a very vague Deseret News article.

Seriously. The Boise thread consistently, regularly and non stop kicks SLC threads ass. On that thread they post updates every single day and talk about the present and future...not spend day after day after day dwelling on the ghost of who cares past.

Here’s some development news to discuss that others probably have seen on buildingsaltlake. A 7 story apartment in the Granary.

https://buildingsaltlake.com/seven-story...dd-to-thousands-of-new-units-on-the-way/

As far as politics and all that go, if y’all want more development centric news head over to the salt lake development Reddit forum and avoid the comments. You should see some of the tangents they get on on the Denver skyscraper page. They once talked about trash pickup for 3 pages and several weeks straight haha

The Boise thread is way less active than this thread and has less than half of the active users that we do. There is very little discussion, just occasional nice photos and news. We have at least 20 users on this thread who read consistently and contribute. I love that we sometimes have arguments between homers and skeptics over development. It makes all of our perspectives more grounded.

Some of you guys really complain too much. Rocky Anderson is relevant to this thread and to SLC's past and future. Scroll past it if you don't like it. It's really not difficult and it's definitely possible to have more than one conversation concurrently.

A couple of ground-level shots of Astra. Original pics by u/chaunceton on reddit.

I'd take one good construction photo over 20 pages of people's opinions. But that's just my opinion. . <------That's called "irony."

Oh man, do I have the thread for you:

SALT LAKE CITY | Development Thread

Delts does a fantastic job capturing it all there.

Hey Reeder, ...and I very much appreciate that you contribute a lot of great photos, especially that I can use over on the SLC Development/Compilation Thread. Myself, I also enjoy thoughtful discussions that are important to the future development of Salt Lake City and the Wasatch Front. Again, of course, got to have plenty of photos.

Astra Comparison

A nice comparison shot using Reeder113's pic: Well, I can't seem to be able to link the photo I uploaded to imgur. The link is there, but not as impressive.

Atlas and Delts, thanks for that development thread. I really enjoyed seeing the progressive photos of all of the projects. Much more interesting than Rocky!

Is the final height for the Main Street Tower/Pantages 392ft? I was hoping they would raise it some more and maybe compete with the Astra as the new tallest. Still not mad with a new tower but I would love to see something in the 400ft range.

I certainly expect a design change before review/ground breaking. It will likely lose 30-100 feet in height, become a bit boxier somehow, and will no doubt look even more thrown together and cheap. That’s the Utah way.

Should also include a brown/beige tint to the building. We want it to blend in, not stand out too much. /s

Im really liking the gradually recessed "window" treatment of the Astra garage siding. The way that light and shadows will change should be interesting.

And SCHMOE; AWESOME shot of the East side. My bet is still on Worthington topping out before Astra...
