Nice to see a bit more height being added as the towers so far have been very forgettable. I am still not sure how nice this location is, as there is no nice park space anywhere nearby and the waterfront isn't going to be redeveloped anytime soon. You basically have to take SkyTrain to get anywhere.
Sapperton Landing Park was built in connection with the M-Line (habitat restoration, I think)
Quote:
Sapperton Landing Park, established in 2001, is an 8 acre $10M Metro Vancouver regional park funded through the Millennium SkyTrain line development based on City property allocated to Translink.
This three way partnership resulted in a unique linear park designed to feature the beauty and power of the mighty Fraser River.
Further, the parks environmental design include backwater tidal channels, riparian woodland filled with native plants to encourage salmon, bird, insect and wildlife habitats.
Fantastic idea. Sapperton Landing Park is so little known. I've only been to that park once by bicycle after having to brave Front St on one end then there's the pedestrian crossing at Cumberland. There is vehicle access too but getting there by vehicle is really no better dealing with the traffic volumes on E. Columbia.
Building 7 is under construction and above the parking structure.
Building 8 and final phase is on the way with 292 strata units starting bellow 400k (430sqft for the smallest studios) over what looks like a 4 storey commercial podium.
Brewery District looking to “unlock” last building at New West site
Quote:
Wesgroup Properties has been unable to find a “unicorn” tenant, so it’s proposing changes to the Brewery District.
The city’s land use and planning committee recently considered a proposed zoning bylaw amendment that would convert 200,000 square feet of health-services density to “omnibus zoning” density in Building 8 in the Brewery District. In exchange, Wesgroup would make Building 5, which is under construction and near completion, 100 per cent secured market rental and would make Building 7, a proposed 32-storey mixed-use tower, into 100 per cent secured market rental and include 50,000 square feet of health-related commercial floor space.
“I truly think the proposal has a benefit for everyone,” he recently told the committee. “There’s no net new density being proposed. The density is staying within the building site as it’s zoned and is simply transferring from one land-use category to another. It creates housing options.”
Construction at our upcoming multi-purpose rental building in #NewWestminster, The Nelson in Brewery District has made great progress over the past few months. https://twitter.com/wesgroup
Yup, I am aware of the Royal Columbian expansion although have not seen a lot of pictures of it. Those cranes seem very tall, maybe because they overlap each other? An impressive sight as you drive down Highway 1.
^ That is one of the best public realm additions to Portland. Very excited to hear the New West is considering something similar. We have a small version of this in Hamilton (below) and it's impossible to imagine the city's waterfront 'seawall' without the connectivity it offers.
