I doubt the Thorlaksons would want to waste it on parking lots. More realistic would be to see maximum number of towers they can squeeze in, with some small park/amenity spaces sprinkled in to save face.

Hopefully that's not the case. I can definitely see a mix of mid and highrises, plus some commercial/industrial component retained by the family to secure the future of their grandchildren.

Some form of a corridor should be considered for a second crossing, but we all know we don’t think that far ahead in this province.

There is no beach there now, obviously, but I wonder if beaches could be created?

It was approved by council this evening.

Everyone voted for it except Ron Cannan so I'm a little surprised. The project is a big win for Mission Group. After 10 years they'll be able to raise the rent on those 15% of units back to market rent. Great asset for their portfolio. Bike parking on the third floor.

Look forward to other projects that are more controversial.

I am able to share something that is quite exciting. I've provided the link below for 3D mapping of all the projects proposed, approved or under construction downtown. The heights and general form are too scale and provides a good representation of what the future could look like.

I have to admit I am very jealous of the Kelowna skyline and their forward thinking City. I wish Kamloops would get a 1/4 of the projects you guys do. Were 105,000 people and you'd never know it.

When I was young Prince George, Kelowna, Nanaimo and Kamloops were all ~ the same population but since then Kelowna is now at least double the population of those other cities, that's a big part of the reason for it's rapidly growing skyline. Even Victoria, with about twice the population of Kelowna doesn't have any buildings as tall as Kelowna

Greater Kelowna has a population of 230,000 as of 2022, double that of Kamloops population

Kelowna's skyline will be far more impressive than Victoria's in 10 years, I'm sure of it. Victoria barely has anything going on in the skyscraper relative to their size.

I don't think so

Kelowna probably has 15 high-rises over 10 stories while Victoria has dozens so it's not even close. While Kelowna's tallest buildings are taller than Victoria's tallest, in the past couple of years we finished two 17 story buildings, two 19 story buildings, a 25 story building and a 23 story building is just finishing here so both cities are in the midst of building booms but it will be a long time if ever before Kelowna's skyline catches up to Victoria. Here's a recent pic of Kelowna and while it's obviously growing like crazy, it has a lot of catching up to do:

There are 10 buildings 10 stories and over just in that photo alone. Then there are:

Ella
Bernard Block
The white building on Richter and Harvey
The condos on Bernard and Gordon
Kiwanis Tower
Landmark 2
Landmark 6
Landmark 7
Park Place

That's 19 and at least 3 more under construction now. Plus there are quite a few 4-8 storey buildings going up in every neighbourhood, 12 units replacing 1 single family house. So they are slowly densifying beyond flashy tall towers.

I love spending time in Victoria too now that my brother lives there. The downtown core feels like a proper downtown and I like the mix of historical and modern buildings. Two different cities, one that's steadily developed since the 1800s and the other that didn't boom until well into the automobile era.

In 5 years Kelowna will have a more “impressive” skyline and will be more photogenic from a distance (think Toronto) while Victoria has a more impressive urban realm and is more photogenic in the details (think Montreal).
