The amt of heritage buildings torn down were mainly due to the fact it became too expensive to upkeep them, they were too cold etc

Things like kresges were contested as to whether or not they were worth keeping - I think if the stamped designs had been left on the buildings top and not torn down they might have been able to save the podium - but in the 80s they seemed to go through this trend of destroying anything classical or detailed they could.

These days however the requirements for how you can harm or tear down a building are much more strict - it's why the pre-confederate buildings on the south side of king in gore park were left.. well to rot at this point - I honestly hope they salvage them, as the designs for what they want to do look very nice. How crazy is it that we can't even USE the south side of our downtown core? The very place that used to be the heart of shopping. There used to be so much class down here that the presidents wife from the USA actually came specifically down here to shop for china for the white house at one point. Everyone forgets hamilton used to have CLASS.

If you put an "h" next to the file extension you get a large image instead of a massive one too.

Wow, definitely the biggest change to the downtown skyline in decades right here. Looks crazy from York Boulevard.

The skyline is finally filling in to make the siteline down York a proper entrance to the city. That was the goal after all, what, 50 years ago?

Those 2 towers have certainly put a dramatic impact on the skyline of the city, and this is certainly not the end either...

Especially since developers can now build more than 30 floors downtown

I like how alot of shots of this include the water. As Hamilton's skyline grows (perhaps if it gets taller, too) the water might make its way into the public consciousness more and make the skyline even more impressive, bridging the lake and escarpment.

Balcony glass going in:

The white trim and painted undersides of the balconies is a nice touch:

Disappointed with the basic, super cheap balcony railing choice though.

There is also scaffolding now up along King William to begin laying brick on the podium levels. Looks like they will be using real brick and not pre-cast panels, which is a nice touch.

I have a question...in Johnnyhamont's series of photos above, there are what appear to be high-rises being built that you can see on the horizon (above Aldershot), in the direction of Waterdown. Is there a huge amount of development happening up there now too?

Sort of... There's one single, huge development, not a huge movement or series of developments.
